Default How limited is the 2005 Carbon Fiber Edition?

I just got a 2005 XK8 convertible Carbon Fiber Edition. I read somewhere that only 200 were made for the US market. I was wondering if anyone could verify that.

The Carbon Fibre Edition was introduced in the UK in late 2004 and limited to 100 vehicles. In 2005, a further 200 Carbon Fibre Edition vehicles were produced for the USA market to commemorate Trans-Am racing successes.

The Carbon Fibre Edition was soon superseded the 2005MY Victory Edition built to commemorate the four Trans-Am victories by Rocketsports. The Victory Edition is well documented as 1050 examples and was only marketed in the USA. The equivalent Final Series 4.2-S was marketed across the rest of the World but only limited to the number Jaguar could sell.

Production of XK8/XKR ceased on Friday 27th May 2005 although there are several 2006 registered vehicles in the USA. This anomaly is due to the USA import/registration regulations.

Default Me Too-------------

May not be rare, but in is something special........

You have one and I have one. Wonder where the other 198 cars are?

If you have one of the 05/ 1 in 200 Carbon Fiber models, let us know. Let's see if we can find all of them.

See attachment below.

Just like buses. You wait an age for one and then two turn up together!

Is there any kind of numbered plaque or edition-specific badge on them?

Default 1 0f 200

and we are seperated by only a couple of hundred miles-----him in Georgia and me in Florida, USA.

I can-not find anything that indicates mine is a 1 of 200 special addition, but it would seem that with the correct VIN number supplied by the owner, Jaguar would be nice enough to issue something reconizing them as so----but who knows. Maybe the cars came with something when new and the previous owners removed it as a keep sake.

I wrote Jaguar Heritage, but they said "Sorry" they reply only for cars 10 years or older. Damn, I missed it by three months...........

GGG'
In addition to the information you provided above, would you have information about which VIN numbers were issued to the 1 in 200 cars?

Seems like I read something about the 200 that were built, that 100 of them were Coupes and the other 100 were Convertibles, but my 80 year old gray matter doesn't give up as to where I read this. If this is true, then we would be owners of "Rare" convertibles for sure. Just as CFE stated above. Rare indeed!

Any help would be appreciated.

Chuck,

I recall this question of VIN's being discussed for the 1050 Victory Edition vehicles. It was of interest to me because I had one of the European equivalent Final Series 4.2-S Coupes at the time so I did some research.

Many of us expected a batch of VIN's would have been reserved for a limited edition series (e.g. for the Carbon Fibre Edition - batch of 200 consecutive numbers) but this isn't the case. Jaguar manufacture any given model in consecutive VIN's and build them in the sequence orders are received from dealers. You could find the VIN of your XK8 is several hundred away from the VIN of 05XK8cfe's.

Graham,
Thanks Pal. Like some other things Jaguar does, that's sad....How can anything be 'Special" if it's just a run of the mill event?

Default Seat's

Thanks Juke.

Yes it is a great looking car through out. Additional picture below.

When I first heard about the car, I wasn't sure about how the Carbon Fiber would look, but seeing it first hand really changed my mind and the seat's just added the final elegant touch--front and back.

PS: I'm the only member of my immediate family that was born outside the State of La., and I really miss all the great food and customs........

Chuck,

I don't think just because the 200 Carbon Fibre Edition (or any of the other limited edition) vehicles didn't go down the production line one after the other, it detracts from their exclusivity or makes them any less special.

I guess the only LE with consecutive numbers would be the Stratstones, given that they were the last 30 off the production line? Would be interesting to see if anyone else on here has one so we could compare the VIN numbers (Oh my God, did I really say that - nerd alert!)

The very last XK8 to come off the production line was an XKR 4.2-S Coupe in Frost Blue on 27th May 2005. Chassis number A48684.

Registered XK05 JAG, it is part of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust collection.

ARTEC,

As to "if they are "ALCANTARA" inserts in the seats and doors". I don't really know. The inserts are a black suede and wear very well. I haven't noticed any wear on them at all.
Someone else on the forum may know the answer.

Artec,
After looking at the car in Daytona, I think I can say that the black inserts in my car are the Alcantara suede. It is different and actually beautiful with the white leather seats, even more so --I think---then how they show with the black leather in the Daytona car. That is a beautiful car however and someone will be a happy camper as an owner. No! Moma would kill me.........
