i can't sleep...2005 XKR
#21
i am so in love! i "planned" on using my x-type sport as the daily, and this as the weekender...but ummm....i dont think that's gonna happen.
i got pulled over today for going 65 mph in a 45mph zone, but the officer let me off after we did a little car talk. he said he had never seen the coupe in person, and that i looked like a bond girl in it. so i smiled, and he let me off with a warning.

Nice one
Nice car, and a few things you should know -
Keys. Why do you want to spend any money on what kind of key you have? A flip out key? Seriously? Does the car start? Leave it alone and save your coin for the inevitable thing that will come up.
Battery draining - yes, this happens with mine even after supposedly isolating the problem to a faulty body control module (a part made by Ford, so I can't blame the usual Lucas suspects here). If your car is diagnosed with a bad BCM, I was told leaving the auto-on feature switched off when the car is parked is a way to avoid premature battery drain. Even doing that, I still have eventual battery drain problems over long periods of inactivity, though.
What you can do to extend the life of your battery is a) drive it at least once every couple of weeks b) disconnect the battery if the car is to be stored for longer periods of time and c) ensure you always lock the car, even in your own garage. There are sensors which keep the car in standby mode and draw more electricity than it would if locked up. Worth a try.
Bluetooth - if you decide to use this feature, check with a stereo installer to see if a bluetooth module from 2005 will still work with a modern phone or other electronics. Even if it does, there have been many updates to the bluetooth software since then which will both improve sound quality (if using it to stream music via Pandora, Spotify, etc.) as well as security (not as much of a concern on this car - you can't hotwire it via Bluetooth).
Brakes - not sure where you are in this process, but yes, ceramics will produce less dust than stock pads and last longer. They all tend to squeal even after a good cleaning, but usually only at very low speeds, for me at least.
Brembo-branded parts of any persuasion will cost you an arm and a leg, but there are alternatives. If you are in the market for a set of new front rotors, let me know as I have two which should fit your car and I need to get rid of them. These are for cars equipped with Brembos, but not the handling package as those had even bigger rotors (found this out the hard way - these were bought by mistake.)
Anyway, I can't return them so if interested please PM me and I'd be glad to work something out. Not sure what your mechanic's policy is for customer supplied parts but I could save you some $ if he's ok with it.
Wheels be ***very*** careful with those 20" wheels when driving to avoid any kind of pothole, bridge expansion joint, railroad crossing, etc. at speed. Combined with the stiffer suspension of the XKR, a good bump that an XK8 would eat right up will be enough to warp the chrome trim rings - or worse - on that car. A new trim ring is about $250 just for the part, and you don't want to think of what the wheels will cost.
Cup holder - if you haven't discovered already, this is a total last minute addition and isn't good for holding anything larger than an 8 ounce can. Anything taller will tip over and the assembly is just poorly placed. Combined with decade+ old plastic, they will break from use and run about $300 to replace. My advice? keep it stowed and get good at holding your coffee between your knees if you must drink one on the road.
Cialis - you just discovered the target market for these cars and why Jaguar lately has been quick to rebrand itself a bit to capture the younger market. The big 5-0 is right around the corner for me, and I have to admit us old fogies aren't buying as many of these as we used to.
Enjoy the car, that's a really nice find!

The details are here: diy-flip-key-conversion-without-reprogramming-guide-pictures-93167/
The flip key is about as trendy as the flip phone - not seeing the performance advantage here. But if it floats your boat, well go for it.

forgot to update, it has the green growler hood badge with supercharged on it, and supercharged also on the engine...

have you ever sat down in tight jeans with a fixed key and stabbed yourself in the thigh? enough said

i wont be really using the bluetooth feature, but i have left it on, so the french girl can greet me everytime i start the car

mine has the handling package, so thank you, but they wont work for me

Ok, but uh, why? The trend is to get rid of the key altogether. Ford, Nissan, Jaguar and others don't put keys in cars anymore. This article from three years ago highlights the now confirmed trend.
The flip key is about as trendy as the flip phone - not seeing the performance advantage here. But if it floats your boat, well go for it.

im an old-fashioned girl. i still use post it notes...i like having an actual key, and want the convenience of sticking it in my pocket without being stabbed, or worse, breaking it.

i always hate seeing the rusty parts on the rotors. so when i had my new brake pads put on (akebono ceramic) i had the guy paint them jet black.
he also did a thin strip on the rotor edge so there would be no rust. basically, everything is black except where the pads touch. it looks really great.
next is replacing/restoring the faded front side markers...do the XK8 fit the XKR? i have some meguiere's ultimate compound, so when this rain stops, i will test that to see if it clarifies them a bit...

You should consider replacing those sh!tty factory lug nuts with a set of solid ones too. Yours are looking a bit beat up and likely to give you trouble some day. You also will notice less "chatter" when all those loose lug covers aren't rattling around while you drive.
I bought the these from Adamesh

You have a beautiful looking coupe. I am very jealous. Next on the list for me will be a 2006 XKR Coupe for sure. Congrats. Save money for those speeding tickets. Not every cop is going to appreciate the Bond girl !

prettybluefin: yeah I did not think you would want to trade....if mine was a coupe I would not have made the offer!...LOL......guess most everyone wants a Vert since there are so few coupes out there....was hoping that you really wanted a Vert and was just settling for the coupe....oh well...I tried.
Have had this Vert for eight years now but have found that I prefer the lines of the coupe instead.
Enjoy your coupe "Bond girl".....

I did not intend it to be rude. Was not commenting on the looks but rather the design of the lugs. Sorry if that was not clear.
Just did not want to see you suffer what a lot of us have when the lug nut cover decides to spin on the actual lug and not come off when you really need it to. I thought a heads up was worthwhile.
Beautiful car.

Heed the advice to replace your lousy factory lug nuts. They fall apart and have great potential to strand you in a tire emergency....
