Default Low Oil pressure gauge when stopped

I have a 2000 xk8 and have recently noticed that my oil pressure gauge goes way down and the red light comes on when I stop at a light after driving for maybe 20 min. My tach reads 600 at idle then. As soon as I start to move it is fine. I checked my oil level several times and it is just below the top hole on the dip stick. Should I simply raise my idle to 750 or so?

Thanks

First I would verify the real oil pressure first.

Get an OBDII device and read the actual oil pressure and water temp.

You can not read the oil pressure with a OBD2 reader, you will need a manual oil gauge.

Here are some links showing how to connect an ebay oil pressure guage, a bit of a PITA.

I have a machine shop just down the street that made my adapter. The big problem I had was getting the pressure sensor out I then found a 21mm socket that worked.

Low oil pressure at idle is an early sign of engine wear. How many miles on the car? Measuring the actual oil pressure is the best test. Add a can of 'Restore' to the oil. If that fixes the problem it is probably wear. Move to a higher weight oil.

Install the RealGauge temp/oil pressure system (Google it).

The Jaguar oil sensor is an on/off switch at 7 psi. I have had one fail.

You may want to remove the oil pan and ensure the screen on the sump is not blocked as well, while getting the correct value of oil pressure is the right course this would be the next step if it were to still read low on idle.
