I am looking to replace the factory stainless capped lug nuts with chrome ones. After looking around the forum, am I correct in my research that the wheel stud thread is 1/2-20 ?. I do realize that they are mag seat with washer nuts. Has anyone done this change that could share their results?
Reason being that I just changed from Revolvers to Coventry Whitley's and would like to dress it up that last bit, as well as getting away from capped lugs.

As of about a year ago, i could not find an aftermarket supplier of this lug nut, not because of the thread spec, but due to the shank diameter not fitting OEM wheels very well. The coventry wheels may be a little different, check out the OEM vs your new wheel lug openings to be sure. I ended up having custom lug nuts fabricated from stainless steel by a fellow forum member with a machinist's hobby

 

Adamesh make them, IIRC Jon89 has used them on his wifes car.

Back in June 2013 I purchased a set of the Adamesh solid lug nuts at a discount from a forum member in California who had ordered them from the UK then decided he did not want them. They work perfectly with my wife's Atlas chrome 19-inch wheels but keep in mind that they are steel, not chrome. Some folks would find them a bit homely in appearance. But I don't care - they are far better than the lousy factory capped nuts that tend to fall apart at the slightest bit of torque....

 

terro - where did you order the coventry's from? I am waiting on mine and the package included new lug nuts

Thought I'd Check in, my father pulled the 97 out of storage and an issue popped up so will be throwing up a post soon.

 

I put the Coventry Whitley's on my 07 for a winter setup and the factory lugs worked fine. Purchased through discount tire and gave me a set of gorilla lugs, but wheels would be held by a small tapered end on the lug and didn't care for that but they would work.

That's why I left the factory ones with the washer. However on the 07 the lugs are smaller.

 

If discount tire has them, that is all I need to know. I need normal type lugs for my wheel adapters for the wire wheels......Thanks......Mike

 

Thanks for all your thoughts. Adamesh might be my best bet, but the shipping might be more than the nuts. I think I'll break out the micrometer and see if there is something that works that is available in the US.

Discount Tire, no lugs included on my deal. Very happy with my Whitleys, not an expensive wheel but brings the XK into this century .... 😎

 

They didn't give them to me, told me they were required and charged $45.00 but I returned after I didn't like how little it looked like they held by. Preferred the factory lugs.

I was the member that made the lugs H2O was referring to. I was going to make a few sets up, but members didn't like the cost. Made in USA from SS, not cheap. Not that I was charging anything for labor but they were about $245.00 for me to make a whole set.

Don't know how much the Adamesh are but good luck with your search.

And yes the Whitleys are sweet. Went with the gloss black for my winter set. Have the 20" Sentas for summer.

 

The Adamesh lugs were about $65 including shipping when I got them 2 yrs ago.

 

Oh, I still love them! I always give the guy at the tire place an extra $10 for using hand tools and not the air gun to keep from nicking them up

 

That thread pattern is available on ebay, if you look under mag nuts. Not stainless, just chrome. I got a set of 20, with washers for $23 free shipping, from lugnut guys, in Minnesota. I've used them on other cars with mag wheels too. I don't drive in the snow, so they don't rust....Mike

(Important Disclaimer: It is worth mentioning that I ordered these lug nuts after taking caliper measurements of the Jag OEM wheels that I bought; I honestly do not know if other Jaguar OEM wheels would use this same lug nut; my OEM wheels measured stud holes 18.0mm [0.72"] diameter and 14.5mm [0.57"] deep, and the wells for the lug nuts and washers to be 37.46mm [1.474"] wide.)

I have already installed these along with my Jaguar OEM wheels and had no problems with either the lug nuts nor the security lug nuts.

Full story: When I bought my 2000 XK8 it had been gifted with some 17" chrome American Racing wheels (Razor), which, I thought, looked like something that only a teenager would disgrace such a beautiful car with (as it turned out, I was right). Not that they looked terrible, but they looked juvenile to me.

Luckily I happened upon a full set of OEM XK8 wheels in pretty good shape on the local Craigslist for $250 (including 2 usable, and 2 replaceable, tires). My problem was that the AR wheels had been fitted with the conical 'acorn'-type lug nuts, and not the mag-style that the OEM rims required.

Searching for the proper lug nuts & washers brought me to BRANDSPORT AUTO ACCESSORIES, based in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

When I started looking for lug nuts, I was assaulted with prices anywhere from $5 each for used OEM lug nuts (which everyone is trying to get rid of!), to $35 each on Ebay! It was a huge relief to finally find brand new, one-piece, triple-chrome plated lug nuts at a great price. BTW, they are not listed as Jaguar lug nuts; their web site doesn't even list "Jaguar" as choice when searching for parts. Personally, I decided not to let Brandsport in on this, lest they raise the price of these just because they fit Jag XK8s!

Even though they are on the Pacific coast and I live on the Atlantic coast, I received my order via USPS in three (or four?) days. From my experience, I can recommend this company and the Gorilla-branded lug nuts and washers. If this will help anyone else on the Jaguar Forums, then I will feel better for having returned the favor to some of the people on here who have helped me greatly by sharing their knowledge. God bless them all.

 

I wanted to add that if you order the security lug nuts, hidden inside the packaging is a sticker with a security number, should you lose the security key and need to order a replacement (at $10.50 a pop). Unless you look for it, you'll accidently throw away that important sticker along with the empty packaging, so heads up!

Also, the security locks include their own washers (4 each).

When I pulled off the first Lugnut of my XK8 I was shocked it was the same size lugnut as the set I took off my dad's '69 Super Stock AMX that had been collecting dust on my workbench for 16 years.

Since I sold off all my "classic" muscle cars, all of my other cars are Metric.
