Default Ok to add 1 quart regular oil to synthetic?

Opps can't edit headers iol = oil.

I should know this but can't remember and figured I'd ask a quick question.

Last oil change got Mobil 1. Just looked she is down a quart. I have nonsynthetic in my garage no Mobil1 around. Is it OK to put a quart in for another 2,000 miles?

Thanks

John

Yes, you can. In fact, they even sell semi-synthetic, which is a mix of the two.

There's no requirement to use synthetic oil in your car at all.

I have always done this for ages with my cars that use a little oil before the next change, I might throw in it what ever is laying around.
As for my nicer cars, I ALWAYS use Mobile 1.

An observation rather than a reply.

Neither of my previous 4.0 litre Jaguars (2000 XJ8, 2001 XK8) or 4.2 litre (2005 XK8, and current 2007 XK) have used any significant oil between changes.

A US quart (0.95 litres) seems a lot to use in 10k miles. Even more so if you do your changes on a time rather than mileage basis.

I have owned some cars with 100k plus on them and they would use a quart every 4-6k miles. My current Jag uses non at 104k.

I came the Forum today to find out whether I should use regular or synthetic oil. I tried to find out from the previous place the owner had taken it to with no luck 2003 Jaguar XK8. I called a Jaguar dealer and they said just use 10-30 motor oil which surprised me. Can anyone look or feel oil to see if it is synthetic or not ? Anyway went and got a regular change and lube job as well. I wanted to know what the previous owner was using because...wait for it... my car just hit 183,000 miles !!!!!!

This agrees with whats in your owner's manual. Many people want to turn the subject into rocket science.

Hi John: Yes it is OK to mix the two and double check this fact I went to the internet authority on oil... Bob the Oil Guy.... Safe to mix Synthetic/Conventional Oil? | Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) - Gasoline Cars/Pickups/Vans/SUVs | Bob Is The Oil Guy ... All of BTOG members say no problem.
