Default Photo Turn Signal Wires

Yesterday I helped a member from jaguar forum with this photo. His issue was auto headlights. While working the issue with him I realized that this useful photo was embedded in a message about the button on my turn signal not working.

I am reposting the photo to make it easier for anyone to find and use. This is a photo of the circuit board at the base of the turn signal. As I've found, these wires can come unsoldered.

1) Button at end of turn signal: See yellow wire bottom of photo. This shows it disconnected. It connects to the closest pin.

2) Auto Headlights: I fixed this a while back. The wire was aqua, I think it was pin 10. Note: the aforementioned owner found that if you ground the yellow blue wire located in overhead cnsole, auto headlights work. So this is noted for future reference and to simplify the question is it my mirror or my switch? (When auto headlights fail).

Good news is when they open they leave a stump on the soldered pin.

Thanks for the picture. It may help me soon.

My problem:

1. Headlights on "auto" and they work fine. Until...
2. Turn on the turn signal and the headlights go out!
3. Turn off the turn signal and the headlights come back on.
4. Turn on the emergency flashers - no effect on the headlights
5. Just turn the headlights "ON" (no auto) and the turn signals have no effect on the headlights.

This has got to be in the switch somewhere...

I have searched but did not find this problem noted anywhere. Any help or guidance on where to search is greatly appreciated.

Curtis, just saw this. Sounds exactly like a loose wire (one of the ones in the photo). With these symptoms I'd take the time to pull off the steering wheel and look. You'll surely agree as soon as you see the price of a new switch!

It's really not hard, the toughest part is unscrewing the upper cowl on steering wheel shaft ( good news I posted a photo of their positions once too ).

There are instructions about pulling the steering wheel to get to these wires posted. If you need any help just ask.

Further thoughts- the loose auto wire can be laying on some terminal that changes state with turn signal on. Would explain the behaviour.

Thanks John - Yeah, I figured I would do a little more research and tear into it. Just need to find a couple days in a row that my wife is not driving it. Gave her some new shoes and took away the 65 MPH shimmy and my wife can't stay out of it!

Sounds good. Be sure to have a soldering iron with a reasonably narrow tip ready. It's be real tough to get a soldering gun in there without scorching something.

If the photo above doesn't help, you'll see the stub of the disconnected wire in the terminal it severed from.
