Power steering fluid replacement
Hi I have a 2001 XKR 54K miles. I've never replaced the power steering fluid. Can someone post instructions for this + what and how much fluid should I use ?
Now the car is running perfectly at the moment and I've completed everything else I could think of at 50K miles (trans fluid, O2 X4 sensors, 2nd tensioners, belts, Air/Oil/Fuel filters, sway bar bushings, SC oil, coolant, driver side engine mount, sparkies, brake fluid, MAF e.t.c).

Power Steering Fluid Replacement
Probably the easiest way to change the fluid is to extract or suck the fluid out of the reservoir; otherwise, to disconnect a line(s) is, in my opinion, asking for a potential leak.
Jaguar specifications call for Mobil ATF meeting Dextron III specs, part # JLM21703 with approximately 1 liter/quart.

From the JITS I think I could just undo the following and let it drain. Should I also turn the steering from lock to lock while the hose is disconnected to force any fluid in the steering rack out ? Interesting that the JITS does not give a procedure for actually draining just the fluid to do a fluid change.
1/ Place a drain pan under steering rack.
2/ Disconnect hose from steering rack.
a/ Remove bolt from retaining plate.
b/ Release hose, hold it clear of steering rack and allow fluid to drain.
Power steering fluid = Dextron 3 qty=0.4 liter. Guess I can use the Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF (Recommended for use where DEXRON, DEXRON II, III and VI e.t.c e.t.c ) that I have left over from the transmission oil change I did for this ?
1/ Fill the reservoir to the bottom of the filler neck.Wait for any air to escape and top up again.Without the engine running, turn from lock to lock two or three times, topping up to the maximum level on the dip reservoir stick.
2/ Start the engine and immediately top up as air is vented.With the engine idling, turn lock to lock two or three times, topping up to the maximum level on the reservoir dip stick.When no further change of fluid level occurs, run the engine for twenty minutes to vent any remaining air.Air in the fluid can temporarily result in PAS pump noise, but this will not cause damage. The time allowances mentioned in the above procedures are to reduce the possibility of a customer collecting a vehicle while still subject to excessive pump noise.If possible, allow the vehicle to stand for thirty minutes before restarting the engine to vent any further air.

OK I decided not to undo the pipes down at the steering rack as I have no leaks anywhere on my car and did not want to risk introducing a new one. These joints are known to leak if disturbed!!
I just used quart oil pump and pumped it out via the filler tank, slide the pipe down the inside of the header tank. Did this 3 times after driving the car till engine was hot and going full lock 3 times each direction between each empty/refill. Fluid now has a nice red color. Remember do not run the engine when the tank is not filled to the correct level!!
The fluid I removed was brownish but fairly clean, it has been in there 11yrs so not to bad. I used transmission fluid as I had some left from the Transmission fluid change I did at 50K miles (a must job on the Merc or ZF transmission).
Seems to work fine no problems and simple job 10-15min at most.
