PRECUS D Message - New Seat Module
Hi Everyone,
Thanks to everyone on this forum, I've successfully repaired the headrests and window motors on my 2005 Jaguar XKR. I don't consider myself mechanically inclined, but can do a basic oil change as well as a tune-up. My most recent project led me to replacing the seat module under the driver's seat.
I discovered that my seat heater failed to function while on a trip. After researching this problem, I found this to be a common failure. I also figured out how to swap the modules under the seats. I moved the passenger's side module to the driver's side while I sourced a replacement unit for the passenger's side.
Now, I have found a replacement unit and have read somewhere before that the replacement unit would need to first be plugged into the driver's side before it can be used on the passenger side.
Yesterday, I plugged the replacement unit into the driver's side and the message, "PRECUS D," was displayed on the console with both amber and red warning lights flashing simultaneously. I pressed the "Clear" button on the trip computer and the lights stop flashing, but both remain lit with the error message still displayed. I then switched the unit to the passenger's side and got the same message with the same flashing lights, but this time the "D" was replaced with "P." Clearly, "D" represents driver while "P" represents passenger.
Does anyone know how to properly program a new seat module so the car will recognize it. The unit does function when plugged in on either side. I then removed the unit from the passenger side. After it was removed, the seat heater light for the passenger side remained lit, though the seat never really got warm or I simply didn't remain in the car long enough.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Jeremy

PECUS refers to the acronym Programmable Electronic Control Unit.
D or P is for the Driver's or Passenger's seat module.
It sounds like you need to configure the seat module to the car.
There are instances of the configuration not being listed for a certain VIN range.
Read the TECH TIPS March 2004 I have provided as a download.
I also included another TSB for PECUS clarification.
