Thank you very much Linda. Your procedure worked perfectly! I don't have a spare key but with a spare fob at least I can retrieve my key if I lock it in the car.

I was having trouble with both my original key fobs (even after installing new batteries). I followed the instructions in post #1, but was not getting the confirmation chirps from the key fob buttons reliably. Then cleaned the contact areas on the circuit board with a pencil eraser and electronics cleaner. Programmed both again per #1 and they now work perfectly.

Strange thing happened to me. I bought a second fob for my XKR (2000). Programmed it and it worked. But i forgot to program them togetter. Second try with 2 fobs together. First one 2 times push the button, second fob 3 times push the button. Now non of my fobs work. The car won't go into program mode when holding the light stsalk and turn the key. Any clues?

That's only the first part of the procedure. You then need to flash the turn signal towards you 4 or 5 times and should hear a "chirp" from the security sounder confirming programming mode.

Graham, I follow that procedure. Hold the stalk, turn the key and flash 5 times. I already flashed it more than 5 times. Still it dosn't turn into program mode.to go to the stalk push stalk push sequensce.

Ron,

As you've already programmed the second fob successfully, it's unlikely there's a fault with the security module.

The rate of 'pull to flash' affects success or failure to go into programming mode. A little faster than once per second is the required rate. If it fails, cycle through the ignition sequence before trying again.

I've always found the programming procedure more like voodoo than science.

Hi
Im trying to program 2 fobs on my 2006 xkr

old fob worked , until I got new one from jag dealer( they programed it free)
but now old one no longer worked.

so I tried to program (did the 5 series button push too 2 on one 3 on other) multiple times and hit all buttons and got beep on trunk and light bottons only
and they work when tested... but lock and unlock ...no go
checked volts on battery all OK just over 3V
so what I have is half a fob
SO is my fob fubar/toast/shot?

Cheers
Andy

once you have the system into programming mode you press all 4 buttons on fob one and then all four buttons on fob two, all in quick succession.

It seems to me that each programming session generates a unique identification setting in the fob do any previously working fobs don't work anymore.

I put the correct sequence onto a similar thread only a short while ago

I did all that and the new fob beeps on each button, old fob beeps only on trunk and light button... me thinks the fob is fubar.

if so I guess it's off to dealer for $325CDN or Ebay $...?
I did find one for 65£ in the UK but from what I've seen on forum they are not the same radio frequency

I also have a 1998 XK8. I just phoned the jag dealer and according to the vin number I need a PN: LJA2610AA. What do I all need to know to insure I am buying the correct fob for my car? Do I also need the key fob part number (ignition systems part type)? I had no fobs for my car at all, when i got it. Any help would be appreciated. I have read the whole thread, but want to make sure I am going about this the correct way. Do i just need to make sure it is not a UK fob? I'm a bit confused. As you can see from my user name, I never messed with a Jag before, but I'm loving it.

You just type "LJA2610AA" into a Ebay search box and you'll find good used ones for about $60.

That is the price. There might be a blemished, faded or broken one for $45, but a good used one will be $60.

The later cars can use the cheaper/better FOB's but the early cars are stuck with the $60 ones.

Procedure worked great... thanks! Had to disassemble and clean the circuit board on the remote, since it didn't work the first time. So be sure to do that if you have trouble-- don't give up!
