R/E differential fluid change,my way, EASY
The X-Member access was cut with a 1" bi-metallic hole saw over the seam in R/E housing. Hole was ground smooth to prevent stress risers and painted to control corrosion. We also did a drill and tap on the R/E Hsg. (1/8 NPT plug). No need for larger hole. Was able to remove Dif. fill plug with a home made tool of 1" square bar stock cut to approximately 7/8" long, and a long, thin 1/2" open end wrench (tappet wrench) to turn the tool. Installed* 2 qts.? of Castrol Synthetic GL-5 75-95W. A pic. of the hole in the X-Member cut with 1" hole saw and dressed to minimize chance of stress riser cracks. Maybe would consider 90/140w instead of 75/90w? This procedure was easy and no guessing on where to drill holes. PS, The NPT tap & plug was easy to source from local parts house.
* inexpensive E-Bay or H.F. pump kit less than $10.
