XK8 alarm 16 minutes after setting

I see from your profile you have a 2004MY. Does this happen if you set the alarm using the key or only when setting it with the remote?

Thanks to grantorino62 and '03 XKR' for your comments.
I checked hood, trunk and doors all look ok.
I discovered that the system will not arm if any of these are not closed correctly. I am doubtful that these would subsequently go faulty after exactly 16 minutes after arming, though, or am I missing the point.
i.e. what is the significance of the 16 minute delay?
Thanks all in advance.

I have a 1998 XK8 that does exactly the same thing.
I set the alarm and within 1/2 hour it triggers.
If anyone has an idea I would really appreciate it.
I don't thnk it holds the last code because the dealer said that they would need to keep it to fix it. Of course............
The dealer is very nice but I am not on the same level as the other Jaguar Range Rover customers of his.

Hello garcys. the story so far.....since my last post.
I purchased a foxwell reader to read the SLM, alas no help, no problem indicated on the device. I have been told by a mechanic that it may be the rechargeable batteries embedded in the active sounder (which is mounted under the RH front wing, I believe). I have not had the chance yet to look at it.

It is on the right hand side front fender (wing), there are pictures in the link of the Sounder and the Emergency Battery Backup Power supply.

As with a similar thread, it is helpful to know whether it is the "main alarm" (i.e. car horn) that is sounding, or the security sounder (under the r.h. headlight) that is operating.
If the latter, and you have an "intelligent" sounder rather than a "passive" sounder, then it's most likely that the internal NiCad batteries have finally expired, or that there's corrosion got in there (as in my post to which 03XKR provided the link.)

garycs, I believe mine does not sound the horn, so I concur with DevonDavid.
Here's the link again, happy digging.

I Eventually got around to removing the sounder. (I removed the complete wheel arch liner, but with hindsight, I think I could have removed it via the Headlamp access cover alone without any problem).
Part number 2W93-19G229-AC (Delphi)
I can now lock the car
Next job is to get inside it........
