Default XK8 navigator

sorry - new here, and the topic has been discussed i'm sure.
but is there a viable upgrade to the outdated Navigator dashboard
screen? (aka an XM radio install?)

thanks!

Welcome to the forum xkat,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

There are three basic approaches:
1. Remove the screen and put another device behind the wood bezel. Some Garmin touchscreen units fit reasonably well. See https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pgrade-142028/. Potentially a phone or satellite radio could be fitted using the same basic idea.

2. Interface electronically to the existing touchscreen monitor with another device. This tends to be a more expensive approach, and the best equipment to do it with the (the Garmin GVN-53) is no longer in production and must be found used. See https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...raffic-49241/?

3. Remove the screen and replace it with the classic 3-gauge configuration which was also standard equipment on this vehicle: See XK8 / XKR Navigation to 3-Gauge Conversion - TheJagWrangler

PS: Welcome to the forum. One of the moderators will probably move this post to the X100 XK8/R section where is will be targeted to the best audience.

I went with the Garmin option, which also gave me a backup camera. You can also get obd information on the screen using the Garmin ecoroute accessory, which looks great.

The three dial conversion is probably the best looking of all the options if you can source the bits at a sensible price.

I went with a variant of option 2 and used the nav display to mirror my phone.

I went the Garmin rout a couple of years ago but I am not familiar with the Garmin ecoroute accessory. Can you give me some more details? Do you have the GVN-53? Thanks,

Mark

The ecoroute is only compatible with some of the later Bluetooth equipped Garmin sat navs. I'm using a 5" Garmin (can't remember the model number) as a dashboard replacement for the OEM sat nav.

See this thread for more info on ecoroute installed in an XK:
