Default XK8 trunk lights

Hi:

The trunk lights in my 1998 XK8 do not work.
There does not seem to be a switch in the deck lid.
Does anyone have a schematic of the circuit?

Thanks:

Gary

If memory serves I think the switch is part of the lock mechanism. It mat just need cleaning.

+1 on the lock mechanism. The mechanism has the micro-switches for the lights.
Here is a site where you can download the complete electrical manual for your car.

This is what I hate about our cars. Making stuff like turning on a trunk light way to fancy.

No proper gentleman motorist wants a button sticking up in his boot.

That is exactly correct Sir - it's bad enough that the Pheasants are full of lead shot, but a protruding button could take its eye out!!

Default Thank you for the help.

You are correct.

It is a micro switch in a plastic case with a plastic actuator that rides on the lock mechanism.

Unless I can get the part cheap (it should be cheap because the materials used in it are) my car will be getting a switch made in Malaysia but made to American specs!

Thanks again

Hi. I have no lights in te back of my 96 xk8 convertible, mind you that'll be due to the lack of bulbs I've just found out after buying the motor. Any idea what bulbs I need for these trunk lights?
Thanks

Good news. Managed to get the below bulbs ordered, installed and all is working fine. These look like good quality bulbs and the blue colour works well.

In case someone is still having this problem......

The inline connector from the trunk light plugs to the grounding lug is a one-way diode designed to keep the trunk lights from being energized by any electrical system feedback should the micro-switch fail.

The connector is marked 91 AG 10374 BA and is available through your local Ford dealer under part # E9RY-10374-A at a cost under $20.00.

The micro-switch is part# LNC6242AB and can be found on eBay and other sources used for $25-$35. Usually attached to some part of the latching mechanism which can be trashed if unneeded. It was used on both the XK8's and XJ's from 1997 - 2003 (at least & probably longer). It is mounted inside a small black case that is pretty fragile so I just used a small screwdriver (or pick) to release the four latches (one at each corner) and then removed the switch. Replaced with working switch and then re-latched.

You can test the switch without removing it by finding the wire connector (12"+/- from switch) and running a continuity check with a multi-meter with the trunk open. No tone means switch is defective as the switch is in the closed (or ON) position with the trunk lid raised.
