changing bumpers - 5/22/2005 6:52:30 PM

Hi, I have a '76 xj6 and was courious if anyone else out there thinks that those big rubber bumber covers look like he**. Has anyone replaced these with the earlier style, all chrome bumpers. I would like to replace both front and rear, do you know what years fit best. Can it be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can replace the bumpers. European xj6's form the same year had the all chrome bumpers
which look fabulous on the car. If your car has the energy absorbing bumper struts, then you will need to change these too inorder to accommodate the chrome bumpers.
Not sure how legal this modification would be though...

there are no legal implications in the US of modifying a bumper so long as you still have one.

i shaved all of mine off and had a state inspection. the sheriff's department kept asking me what kind of car this is. i would get on yearone.com and find the style you like and fit it. all you need to know is the width you need and the rest is simple. if you can weld and fabricate. if you live by me, i would do it for you.

no, but a front bumper for a 32 plymoth vicky might fit with alittle work on the mounting plates. i think we all need to think outside the box when it comes customizing our cars. i did mine and i have several ideas about what and how i should of done and wished i would have done. i am looking for another jag body to cut and weld on.
