ORIGINAL: JimC64 Good luck to ya Socal........man, those guys really piss me off! Although to be fair ( having met more than my fair share I guess) there are some pretty decent ones out there too. Generally though, traffic cops are a breed apart. Can't you also ask to see the calibration certificate.......according to our laws, these devices MUST be calibrated at the start and end of EVERY shift! Thanks. Ya...I'll be subpoenaing the calibration logs (which have to be current within 7 days here), the officer's copy of the citation (front and back...the back of the original ticket is where they write notes), and any previous complaints filed against said officer in the past year. I'm lucky enough to live across the street from a County Sheriff Detective of 17 years. He works in another county and he despises our local traffic cops. He prefers to fight crime. He gave me a couple tips...including using the 1/4 mi. slips. That shows that I tried to recreate the speed suggested in a legal setting...and that I'm willing to take it to the track to race, vs. on the street. I'll leave out the fact that the track I went to was at 2700' and I was running pump 91 octane. I usually run a blend of 5g of 100: 13g of 91 amd I live at 1400'.

I understand it's the principle of the matter. (I'm a man of principles. If you don't like this one, I've got more!) How much are you willing to spend to save a couple hundred bucks? It's like the old saying--I don't know where I'm going, but I'm making good time.

How much are you willing to spend to save a couple hundred bucks? It's like the old saying--I don't know where I'm going, but I'm making good time. Let's see....$0. I guess you could count the $20 I spent for track registration. I'm not hiring an attorney. I'm just going to show up at court. 50% of the time, the officer won't even show, and tickets can be dismissed. A citizen has the right to question his accuser. The subpoenas are free. You stop by the courthouse...go see the clerk...get the forms...and submit the subpoena. I think everyone should go to court. If every single ticketed driver scheduled a court date, traffic officers would spend 75% of their time in the courthouse. They'd think twice about handing out random tickets to meet a quota, and they'd be on the lookout for real violations and street racing. The roads would be safer for all of us. I really destroyed the topic of this thread...did I mention, I'm a fan of Jaguars? Never met an anti-Jag person either.

Yeah ken it costs nothing to fight a ticket...unless you of course get a wreckless driving with 6 points or get a major charge like that is when you need a lawyer! I've actually been told to fight tickets by cops before and I recommend fighting tickets. When you fight a ticket here I have said that I am guilty of speeding but use insurance cost the excuse for lowering the charge. The state cares irregardless of what they charge you for as long as they get to see a little green coming in. The point don't matter to them as long as you don't have multiple tickets on your record. Besides you are only out a couple of hours of working time in fighting the ticket. As long as you don't get like contempt of court or something like that you have nothing to lose except a couple of hours of your time. The judge will say nope your wrong you must pay, or "I see no reason why we can't lower the severity of the fine" or the best is when the cop doesn't show up entirely! Hey socal what date do your time slips have on them? Hopefully after because just because you went to the race track probably doesn't make the judge feel like you won't drive like a street racer just because you go to the drag strip...I'd definitely use the kids as an excuse as to maybe why you were in a hurry or something. I wouldn't use the whole sports car thing as the judge probably isn't an idiot and could find out exactly what you are driving. I drive a s60 R which I don't think the judge would be dumb enough to not know what kind of lettering after the name of a car means....Kind of like when I was getting an insurance quote and the lady said she had been an insurance agent for 20 years and somehow thought that my 900RR would be something along the lines of a harley or honda shadow or road bike and not a crotch rocket! They know that the RR doesn't stand really slow! Good luck though hopefully he has something better to do that day! Plus if the cop has any idea what he's talking about he would have to be able to see the turbo...right or wrong?

Ya...I went to the track a couple months after I got the ticket. I'll be telling the judge how I've never raced my car before, but I felt inclined to go because I was in such disbelief on the potential of even being able to reach 75 mph in such a short zone. And no...this cop did not see a turbo. In fact, I can't even see it unless the eingine is cool and I lean over the engine...it's tucked way in the back...down low. Transverse engine in the R. I won't be pointing out any R badging. The ticket says Volvo S60. So..I drive an S60. I won't be lying.

For sure...don't ask don't tell policy is a good one...no lying...can't answer a question if you are not asked! But for real I'm with you...sounds like you are on the right track...I don't think you will have anything to worry about the only thing I would say from the start is how you "apologize for wasting judge police and courts time and how you have a good driving record...the only thing I'd say otherwise is that you don't want the points. I admit that I am guilty of speeding but at the most 10 over not 35 over the speed limit. The only reason I was speeding was to get onto the freeway..." If they don't bite on that I'd offer the time slip at the drag strip...but as I said over here they don't car about the points just the 130 they get for the ticket. They gave me a 75 in a 70 which is no points and doesn't even show up...they get their money I get no points and we are both happy. The judge made that choice on her own...she already had a sheet on my driving record that was a blank sheet as this was my first ticket and I was like 18 or 19. Its easier to get out of speeding than a red light or stop sign... Good luck though and keep us informed....oh and the most important part is keeping respect in their minds...when you show up in nice clothes...I wouldn't wear a suit as it kind of shows you have money...just suit pants and a shirt belt and dress shoes does the job for me...while wearing nice clothes and not looking like a menace to society the judge sees respect and that has a lot to do with everything in this world...

yeah its BS, i hate pigs (cops), especially when they come after you for no reason what so ever. the other time they piss me off is when u want them to come to you, but they are too busy pulling someone over for having a nice car, or because they dont like who they are seeing driving the car.

Well, here in Florida, the entire "the cop won't show up" thing won't work! Cops get paid overtime for going to court! Also, they don't have to show up to the hearing, which means that they offer you a plea of no contest, which gets you NO points, but like a $200 fine and maybe some traffic school! If you contest that, then you have to go another day, and then you're screwed because the cop shows up and the judge is less lenient! Traffic in Florida is a PITA!
