Hello All,
I'm new to the forum, though I've been a jag owner since 2002.  I own a 95 Topaz XJ6  that isn't passing smog here in California but only because the check engine light is on.  How can I turn this light off?  Any Help would be appreicated.  Thank you.

My guess is the engine needs to be fixed.

IF it says check engine there's no one way to turn it off, you have to take it to a mechanic, or I suggest a dealer and get a diagnostic test.  They will find out what's wrong with the engine fix it and the light will turn off.

Or you could take out the circuit for the warning lights, but that might be a bad idea...

well, i know that the issue is that one of the catalytic converters has gone out, it still passes smog... at least it would if the engine light weren't on.  My registration is about to expire and I really need to figure out a solution.  Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks all

You will need to change the cat and possibly an 02 sensor.

do smog pumps tend to fail?  I have a 95 xj6 with 67K the check engine light came on and gave code p0411 last summer periodically and then quit.  Now that it has gotten warm again..   check engine light is on again.  this time staying on.

anyone know how to bench test an x300 smog pump?

i tested the connector and got 14V..

then I applied 14v to the outer pins..    pump spun like crazy for about 10 seconds now it wont spin at all.

P0411 is air pump fault
replace air pump upgrade fuse from 25A to 30A
real simple job
three 8 mm bolts
2 hose clamps on pump
fuse location for air pump is identified under r/h engine compartment lid
worst case scenario would be air pump check valve fault
but not too likely

ib,

wouldn't an intermittant air pump clutch relay, at the right headlamp panel, cause the same code?

95 to 97 models with P0411 for me personally have usually been a faulty air pump and or burned air pump fuse due to pump drawing to any amps
with new pump installed the 25 amp fuse is upgraded to a 30 amp also
hope this helps

so as far as this goes for the air pump, all that is needed to be done to fix the problem is to upgrade from the 25amp fuse to the 30?
