I have a 2003 X-Type and it has about 60k miles. This car looks like it just rolled of the show room floor. I mean this car looks like it is brand new-perfect! However the other day I noticed rust inside the door jams on the front of the car. Kind of like in the bottom corner near the hinge. You can not see this rust from the outside at all when the doors are shut but once you open the doors you can see it. The car does not even have a scratch on it but this rust???? Has anyone heard of this as some sort of common problem with this car??

I have an 03 as well and it is as spotless as you described yours...Like Caddy said..this is not right..get it to the dealer, as I think (don't quote me) that there is a rust warranty, that is longer than the 4 year/50k..

Take some pictures for us...

here is the problem. The rust is on the body of the car. (will take pics soon and post) not the hinge or anything like that. It is only on one spot on the car but on both sides. Has anyone heard of this? I will but up pics tomorrow. any tips or anyone else that had this issue would be great help.

Doesnt matter where it is. There is a corrosion warranty on vehicle which is normally 8 years unlimited mileage. Refer to your owners manual for specifics. You should be able to take to dealer and get it fixed under warranty due to the corrosion warranty. When they look up your car at the dealer, DDW will show the date of expiration for corrosion warranty.

Right the Service Portfolio book says:

Paint Surface Warranty Statement

"Should the paint surface of the vehicle body requrie attention due to a defect in material or application, any necessary reapirs will be undertaken by a jaguar Authorised Repairer, completely free of charge"

"Duration of the paint surface warranty - 3 years, unlimited mileage"

6 years, unlimited mileage corrosion (perforation) warranty statement

"Should any part of the bodywork of the vehicle be perforated by rust corrosion, the panel(s) affected by the perforation will be repaired or replaced by any Jaguar Authorised Repairer, completely free of charge, regardless of any change in vehicle ownership"

"Note: the term 'perforation' means a hole that penetrates through the bodywork, caused by corrosion from inside or underside, as a result of fauly manufacture or materials"

My take on that comes down to prudent common sense on the dealer..If they didn't fix the surface rust of his car now, because of the definition of rust perforation..they will indeed be fixing it later for just that, if it is left to go..like cancer...Besides, I can't imagine they wouldn't fix it anyways.

If there's rust in that area, definitely check on the underside of the door.

1.) Get it done through warranty
2.) If for whatever reason that doesn't work (which it should), do not use WD-40. It's too abrassive. I've done rust repair as the Contours love to develop rust on the underside of the doors.

What you want to do is sand down the rust, treat it with a product called rust coverter, re-sand, touch up and clearcoat. I do this every couple of years, and the rust is contained, it looks rather fine. Again, get it done through Jaguar as you should be covered.
