I have a 2004 VDP.  Recently one of my headlights went out.  I took it to our dealer as car still under warranty, they replaced headlight assembly/unit but now the light they replaced appears yellowish compared to original.  I questioned whether they installed incorrect light (non-xenon or wrong color bulb ie 4000k instead of 8000k).  They said that they were told by jaguar that it will take 50 hours of use for new light to "break in" and then should look like old light.  I don't buy there answer, but has anyone heard of this or had this problem before? Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
the hid units replaced in vehicles are a superceeded part.
The intensity is the same as the previous part. With lights shining forward,
you should see no difference on the road or pointing at a wall.
Colour diferential is normally only visible if you stand in front of vehicle and look
at the lights head on.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.  Does Jaguar have a solution for this problem, as the car looks ridiculous with two different colored lights.  The "new" light does not appear to be an HID Xenon light and I would not want to just replace the other light to match the "new" one.

I'm beginning to get very frustrated with Jaguar and maybe I should go back to Mercedes.

How in the world would having two clearly different and non-matching headlights be acceptable to customers or to Jaguar?  My car now resembles some jalopy when viewed from the front during the day or nighttime as these lights are always on.

I own an 04 XJ8. You may not be aware of it, but you can shut of the day-time driving light feature of your car by getting into the settings area of your touch screen. I can't remember exactly how to do it without referring to my owners manual but mine were not on when I bought the car this past fall and I noticed that they could be set to a daytime "on" position while browsing through the manual. At least you would not have that unbalanced look during the daytime!

Thanks for the help.

I'm going to see if my dealer can get me 2 xenon bulbs of the same color intensity (about 8000k), if they can't, I guess I'll have to buy them myself from aftermarket dealers.  I think that the only difference is in the color of the bulb.

Then have the dealer replace the other one to match. At least then you got 2 new ones.
We have had people complain of the same thing. Most dont care, but some do. When they complain, we will replace other side. It is discrestion (sp) of dealer to do it. I hope it works out for you. The XJ is a nice car.  I hope you decide to stay with us.

HID's DO tend to wear out and change color after an extended period. I changed my Philips HID bulbs in my prior car after 75000 miles (roughly ~2000 hours of use, if you use a 35 mph average) and I noticed a huge difference in the intesity of the new bulbs. They don't last forever, but replacing bulbs is eazy sneezy, just pick up either the OSRAM or the Philips D2S bulbs from an ebay supplier. OSRAMS are about $200 for a pair, and Philips are going for $100 a pair, both identical in specifications, but OSRAM has a little appearance to it's light, caused by what...I have no idea.
