We have guys that love doing them. I hate them so I let them do them. I prefer the clean work
Gotta hustle to make a living. Warranty won't over pay for sure.
Funny though, love doing ZF trans, but you can have the Jatcos all day long.

Just out of curiousity ..

How many of those 20 or so Trannys that you have done Genius, were on a 2002 X ?

If I missed any, I'll re-read later.

I want to put a larger ATF cooler with more passes to it.  It appears the factory 1 is a single pass.  I know heat kills an auto, so it can't hurt.

The cost I signed for the dealer to get reimbursed was ~ $5600.  I think he quoted me $6600 if I walked in the door.  Mine was covered under warranty :)  FYI...I checked a local Cottman and they wanted $2600 installed.  Only checked there cause I thought it was the tranny.  If Jag warranty did not replace it now, I figured it would be soon.

The dealer was great and the tech seemed to know his stuff.  The first thing he checked was the ATF level...Level was fine.  They do not repair so the only option for them was a new one.  I'd really like to know what was wrong with it as I'm sure the whole thing was not shot.  BTW...I have no complaints on Jag service or warranty.  I've never had a GM or Ford replace something because of a sound...Only after a complete failure.  My dealer has been great.

I have a couple questions for the techs on here.

Do you know what is failing on the Autos?  You may not know as it does not seem like Jag lets you fix them, just replace.

Do you have any suggestions on how to preserve my new one?  I want to keep the car for a while and hope to get more then 50K miles out of it.  I switched to using the S mode all the time figuring it will shift @ higher points now...should be less stress on the gears.

Lastly, does the auto get installed from the bottom or the top on these cars?  Hoping I will not need to replace it again, but I don't have a lift...Top install would be easier.

Thanks for the all the help!

dennis -probably 15 of them were for the recall in 2002-2003 cars..  i built a special jig...cus i like doing things others techs hate..  i never took down engine and trani.. just subframe then bolt on my jig that is bolted to a trani jack,, then pop it off with all wheel drive still attached..   and engine being held with a engine holder..  i love doing ZF's as  well. beautiful trani design inside and out

x type rick - i wud change the trani fluid on a regular basis . and it has to go in from the bottom..

LOL...Genius...you scared or something? I pull the trans out and just let the motor hang on the mounts with a screw jack and a block of wood under oil pan. Taught by the old school guys I guess. One day will be the end of me I am sure, but will be quick.

Definitley flushes. I personally would do it every 20k if you keeping the car.

The Jatco has a fill charging port with a cork in it on top, just below the left of the battery
