The driver's side window of my '97 XK8 has started to open when I pull on the door handle. The window used to open slightly and then close back up once I shut the door. Now, when I exit the vehicle, the window comes down, but does not close back up. Each pull on the door handle results in the window lowering a bit more. Any ideas as to what might cause this strange behavior?

Many thanks in advance.

Replace the battery. When battery voltage falls below 10 volts while cranking, window memory is lost.

Also, you will need to reprogramme windows after battery replacement.

Thanks very much for your response. I must admit that I thought it sounded pretty unlikely, since I've never had a problem starting her up, but I watched the voltage on startup just now and it was at 11 initially and then dipped down to 9...any suggestions on a battery, or will any 12v do?

Also, I never got a remote with this vehicle (although the seller promised to 'send it along'). I would like to take care of this issue, as well, but would prefer not to drop $200 and take a 30 mile trip to the nearest Jag dealer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated...thanks again.

Is the window, dropping and coming back up when you release the handle, or is is dropping and staying dropped then drops further with each pull and release of handle?

If your voltage is dropping, I would say replace battery, that should take care of it.

If it drops and goes back up, probably door latch is bad. You will see on message center that is will not say drivers door open when it is.

The remote, you can find them on ebay alot. You can programme them yourself. Be wary of the ones on ebay though if used. There may be a reason why they are selling them.

There was an add on here for remotes at like 90% off.

Driver's side window is "dropping and staying dropped then drops further with each pull and release of handle".  Sounds like a new battery is in order...I have a Sears gift card that I need to get rid of. Would a high-end Diehard be adequate for this vehicle?

Thanks again for the help, and for the keyless remote link (I have my doubts about eBay)..

This post is to thank FactoryJaguarTech for all the help. I replaced my battery this weekend with a Sears equivalent, so now the cranking voltage stays at/around 11 volts during start-up. I then re-set the window memory, following instructions found on this site, and it worked like a charm!

Thanks again+
