Hi all,

I  looked into my car's history and wrote this over at the Jag Lover's forums. Some of the stories that other people posted were pretty interesting.
Apparently my Jaguar was originally bought in St. Petersburg,
Florida by a divorce lawyer in '93. After he got tired of
it, the car somehow ended up at a used car lot in Milford,
Connecticut. It was bought by an elderly man, I found a photo of him under the back seat. At some point
it was involved in a fender bender. Upon his death in '02
his son inherited it, it was shipped over here to
California; and after admiring it for months, I bought it
from him January of last year.

Anyone else looked into the history of your Jaguar and want to share it?

My MY97 VDP's history is very simple:

- My mother bought it new from Imperial Motors in Wilmette, Illinois (USA) on 7 June 1997 for $66,460.80.

- Several small fender-benders over 10 years as she is probably one of the worst drivers I know. Frankly, I'm a little surprised the car even survived.

- Mom gave the car to me in late August 2007 with 37,800 miles on the odometer.

- $10,000 in repairs later (Mom's neither a car enthusiast nor very observant), the car now has nearly 45K on the odometer and freshly buffed/polished/waxed paint and looks almost new.

Sidebar: After replacing the Jaguar with a convertible Mercedes, my Mom recently decided that she missed the Jaguar and is in the process of buying a new one. Unfortunately, she's keeping the convertible M-B (a CLK or some such), and is trading in her M-B SL 500!

All I know about mine is it was originally purchased in Bucks County, PA.  I remained with the original Owner until he/she traded it for something else.  Then it went up for auction and was purchased by a Ferrari Dealership in NYC that also specialized in selling used luxury cars, which is where I came in.

Funny, it seems like a lot of Jags end up in Florida or lived there at some point. I've noticed this before. Wonder why that is.

My car was also purchased in 1994 at Imperial Motors in Wilmette, by an elderly man for his elderly wife.  They kept in hardly used and garage kept for some 13 years, and then from what I understand they both died by 2006.  The car ended up in teh hands of a car whosaler in Racine Wisconsin, with 70,000 miles on it.  I purchased it in February of 2007, and 9,000 miles later it still runs great...and I just had it repaired from when that moronic high school girl backed into my front fender.

After traveling over the pond, my cat came to Calgary where it was delivered to Charles English motor cars, No other information to date, but I do plan to run a VIN check through my son the cop.

I drove a '92 XJ40 today, and am prepping it for a 1300 mile parts delivery trip on Monday.

The car was slid off a trailer onto my driveway two years ago, with no rear suspension or differential provided. I put a battery in it and fired it up, sounded like a good candidate. Under it went a complete rear suspension from a '93 I had just parted out, drove the car the next day and parked it at the back of the "projects" line. After finding $3.00 worth of change in the car, my investment was at $147.00.

Last year I drove it to a local body shop to see about rubbing off the industrial paint overspray that came with the car. It sat untouched until today, and lit right up with a charged battery installed. Before leaving, I asked if this new sanding clay I have been hearing about would work: in 5 minutes, there was a nice clean spot of black/ clearcoat finish on the hood, surrounded by the baked-on yellow speckles that cover the car. Looks like I'm going to be out another $20.00 for a clay kit.

Hoses, belts, tune-up stuff, front shock bushings, trans service and I'm on the road. It's past has been something of a cruel mystery, but I think this car's new life is going to be bright and shiny. It's pretty funny the things people discard as junk.
