On my 01 XJR.  I am getting a knocking in the front end and have so far narrowed it down to the balljoints, the lower ones specifically.  Just wondering if this is something that commonly happens especially on mine with only 55K on the ticker.  I already changed out the sway bar links as they were loose but that didn't fix the problem.

It is fairly common.  We sell them separately for $50.  They must be pressed into the old control arm.  Make sure the machine shop sets them all the way.  The last 1/4" is critical!  You will have to call me on this.  This is way off our normal price.

Ken,

Thanks and I will call you tomorrow.  I already got the old ones pressed out, hopefuly it id=s easier to press in the new ones.

I had a dicey time getting the springs out, thank goodness for a lift and pole jacks.  I guess the right way to remove them is to use a internal spring compressor maybe?

Chas,

Good talking to ya!  Balljoints will be there tomorrow.  The springs are something else.  Jaguar has a special tool for those as well.  I don't know what our techs use.  I just stay out of the shop when they are doing them, if you know what I mean.

There is a special tool that goes inside the spring and turns 1/4 turn into the subframe at top. Very dicey setup. Saw one of our guys lose a finger when that tool let go early.

That's the bad side of "I've done it a million times."  Springs scare the hell out of me.

Our man is past that.  He told me on the phone that the balljoints are already pressed out of the control arms.  Gonna be running for the weekend!

Got them and they are installed, thanks Ken!!  You saved me some serious bucks.

As far as the springs go an old school chevrolet internal spring compressor and a bit of pry bar action, they went in with just a few curse words.
