Hola Gang

Im new to the board.  I have  97 XK8 with 45K on it.  Had it about a year and just recently, on occasion it started giving me a 4 to 5 second chime/low tone after I turn the engine off.  Any ideas?

Wow! Been reading these forums for a long time and never heard that one.  The chime is anouncing the completion of a requested action.  Is it as you remove the key and the steering wheel moves out of the way?

Is key in or out of ignition?
My opinion is bad turn signal switch or ignition tumbler, but need more info.

It starts as soon as I remove the key.  Doesnt do it everytime, maybe 30 to 40 % of the time.  Its not the same chime as when the lights are left on.  Much longer 3 to 5 seconds and louder, (an angry sounding chime  LOL).  Tried to recreate it with no luck, very much a hit or miss chime.

I'm baffled.

Wait.....what about this.

Get in the car, dont turn ignition on....then pull back on the shifter. Is that the noise?

Finally got it figured out and Factory you were on the right track.  Its the tone you get when the car is left in gear.  Evidently there is some play in the shifter so even when it is securely in Park the alarm/tone is sounding.

Thanks again Factory.
