Hello Jaguar Nation,

I have an issue. I have a 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas that I have had since December of  '94. I have had many Jaguars since then. Just when I thought I knew my cars inside and out, someone always seem to try to challenge my knowledge. Only this time it's the knumb skulls @ the Jaguar Dealership. My Vanden Plas needs a fuel line, the dealership is telling me that my 1995 Vanden Plas is a long wheelbased car and that Vanden Plas has never had a short wheelbase! I know for a fact that in 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas was a short wheelbase, it wasn't until 1996 that Jaguar made the Vanden Plas and the V12 a long wheel based car, I was told that my information isn't correct, even to take it a step further, I spoke with Denise @ the Jaguar customer service, she did her research and took sides with the dealership. I have contacted a total of 7 dealerships across the United States and all agree that the 1995 Vanden Plas is a short wheelbase car, many dealership had to do reserch because even they did not know it was a SWB. My local dealership has still advised me as of today, that 1995 Jaguar Vanden Plas is a Long Wheelbase car, WTF? My delemia now is, I was told if I ordered the part for the shortwheel base and it doesn't fit, I will be out of 400.00, and if they order the fuel line for the long wheelbase Vanden, I will still be S.O.L. Any suggestions Jaguar Nation?

I've seen the VDP in both LWB and SWB.  Could you post a pic?  Do you have the seat controls so that the passenger side rear passenger can move the passenger side front seat?

No, not for the rear seats. I have also owned a 97 Jaguar Vanden Plas which was a LWB. Again, for 1995 there was not a LWB for the Vanden Plas model.

Wow!  No I'm going back and forth.  Let me see if I can measure a door on both.

The rear door is where they stretch them.  Sounds like you already know that.  Seems like you've really done your homework.

Yeah, along with David @ Jagbits, we found it to be really funny. My Jaguar dealership has told me that the only answer they can trust if from a Jaguar Customer Service Rep, when I spoke with Denise, she explained to me that those are service professional @ the Jaguar Dearlership and they should know the ends and outs of the Vanden Plas. According to the Parts manager, Jaguar has never made a short wheel based Vanden Plas. Interesting huh?

Umm, why not measure the length of the line you require and have someone measure the length of the new line? I have a '95 XJ6 and a '97 VDP, and my guess would be there is like a foot difference in the outlet line from the fuel filter. If it was my car, I'd find a piece of line with the proper fitting on one end (it's a GM filter) and splice it to a good section of the existing pipe with a compression fitting.

Thanks Jagtech, David @ Jagbits made the same suggestion about having someone to measure the new line, the dealership told me that they had no way of measure the fuel line for the long wheel base. The parts manager told me the only way he could measure it is that he would have to order it first! The fuel line that I need is not the line that comes from the fuel filter, but it's the other high pressure fuel line that comes from the fuel tank.
