Greetings Jaguar wizards,

One or the HID headlights on my 2004 VDP is not working, any idea what the repair bill might look like? I just bought the car and if the bill is too high I might persuade the dealer to take care of it.

Thanks,
Venelin

That's a very open ended question.  It depends on what's wrong with it.  Power pack, lamp, fuse, wiring, BCM, etc.  At the least an hours worth of labour would be involved.  If you just bought it, I would take it back where you got it and tell them they sold you a car with a bad headlamp and get them to repair it at their cost.

I''''m puzzled by this. Left HID is not working. I swapped the light bulbs - no luck (left still not working). I checked the fuses (F8 & F9) - both are fine.

The interesting piece is that when I turn on the lights, I don''''t hear the leveling motor moving on the dead bulb either - are these getting power from the same place as the HID ballast? Any suggestions how to trace the wiring?

Thanks,
Venelin

PS: the seller from another state, he is sending me a replacement ballast (which he believes it the culprit) but I''m not that convinced.

at least he is working with you, hopefully he will take total care of it for you...does the car still have a warranty?

I can''t remember now that I think of it but what about telling the dealer?  No warranty from the person?

The selling dealer is sending me a new ballast. It will be here tomorrow. He will also pay for the labor - not a bad deal overall, except it is taking forever and it is not clear to me if the ballast is at fault to begin with.

I was trying to see if it is something simple I can do myslef and save us the hassle.

It is likely the ballast if fuses are good. You could always check for power at the connector.
