blown head gasket

hey_hej -> blown head gasket (6/2/2008 7:42:42 PM)

I have blown head gasket on my  1986
xj6. How much will it be to replace it without parts?

The problem with blown head gaskets is you don't know what other damage
has occurred, especially if you overheated until you get in there. The head might have warped (machine shop), thermostat etc. So it can be as cheap as a gasket replace or as expensive as an partial engine rebouild.
Good luck

Worst part of the job is usually removing the head itself
NOT FUN :-(

pretty easy to remove the head.. with the the proper tools .. lol old school tricks

ive seen old school ways with proper tools still take all day
when head studs are seized to head and they will be you can bet its gonna take you awhile more times then not
who know you might get lucky?
personally i havent had to do a head gasket on a series 3 in over 10 years
i have been working at jag dealers since 1991
and have seen quite a few of them being a real pain in the ass
