If you insert your key into the little hole in the drivers door and turn counter clock wise the door will unlock magically.  You can than open your hood and replace the battery.  Once the battery is replaced you'll be good to go.

Unfortunatly, in your case if the battery goes dead like that, you have no way of getting into your trunk till you either replace the battery, jump start it, or use a 9 volt battery adapter in the cig lighter...

I insist, What car do you have?  My S-type has an insert hole on the trunk below the press-button.  It's really hidden, and I found it by pure coincidence, but it's there.  You stick your key in there and voila, it opens!

To open the trunk on an XK8 or XKR with a completely dead battery, look between the "X" and the "K" on the lower RH side of the deck lid.  There is a small hole between the two letters - just big enough for your key!  Saved me more than once.
