opastu Expansion valve is unfortuntly part of the evaporator core you''ll need to replace complete evap core which involves removing entire dash to start with not something i"d advise a novice/beginner in doing:-( describe why you think the expansion valve is bad?

The problem I have is that the compressor shuts itself down very shortly after activating. There is a full charge of freon. Periodically, the compressor will stay on a bit longer, perhaps for several minutes, then it shuts down. A local mechanic thought it might be the expansion valve. Could it be something else...perhaps less complicated that ripping the dash apart? Thanks, Stu

I suggest replacing the relay for the compressor clutch to start with, just to be sure it isn''t giving up. The next place to look is the pressure switch, if it is going bad, it may trip off the clutch. I would make the expansion vavle the last thing to check, which will require tools to check.

My vote is the pressure switch, called the trinary switch on your car. We sell boat loads of those.
