So I got a new XF about a month ago ... love it but bummed that it didnt come with xenon lights standard ... so not being able to afford a prem upgrade ... i decided to try and upgrade the car to better lights by purchasing a HID Kit ($200)

Now since this car is fairly new ... anyone hear about anyone doing this yet? I havent tried to tinker with the installation yet because its not as basic anymore like some of the other cars ...

I''ll keep you guys posted on what i do incase someone in the future tries this out ... but for now if anyone has heard or done this themselves .. please advise! =0

Well just to be clear its not a kit for this particular car or model ... the XF utilizes H7 bulb type ... and i chose the color temp as 6000K ... so you can google these type of kits and look at diff prices.

hope that helps .. the particular one i got was at www.xenonpros.com cause they were local to my location in california ..

easy to install.. headlamps come out in 2 minutes..    probably would get no warranty..on the headlamps tho..

Yeah the problem is that the battery for XF''s is in the trunk and some of these kits require wiring to the battery ....

Well i plan to do all of this Saturday morning and I will take pictures of everything i do .. if all goes well i will post them here on this website so people have it for future reference.

Fingers Crossed!

So .... i was suprised how easy it was to take things apart in the XF but not so happy at the results ...

maybe this HID kit is the wrong type or cheap i dont know ... but the bulb did not fit into the grooves on the headlamp ... meaning it didnt snap into place properly so gonna call the company and see if they have an adapter or somethign for it ..

then the second issue was the power adapter ... the male connector from the HID kit was too wide to fit into the female connector on the XF ... if it was the proper size then it would have been very easy plug n play ...

so i''ll keep you guys posted on what i end up doing ... regardless if anyone is reading this or not =)

I did similar mod on my Acura MDX some time ago. A few things to consider: if your XF with hallogens does not have projector lenses, the HIDs will look awkward and most likely blind all other drivers. The cure is to replace the whole headlight assebly with one with projector lenses, but on Jags that is quite costly.

I got my HID kit from eBay for $79, most of these require you to use a knife to "adjust" the bulb fixture to fit the headlight, not a big deal, but defenitely not plug-and-play. On my kit the bulb was supposed to be H7 and it looks quite like it, but the plastic was too wite so I needed to cut it a bit.

If you have trouble with the power connector you can cut the socket and stick the cables directly in the female plug that powers the hallogen light bulb - make sure you get the correct polarity on the HID voltage converter, otherwise you could be in a bit of early 4th of July show.

Also most of the people who sell these kits are quite helpful and could send you additional power sockets for little or no extra cost.

Try taking some pictures so we can see what you have going on.  I hope it is a nice kit for $200 bucks though.

So to update those that were interested in my results ... i decided to call it quits for now ... too complicated.

all HID kits for H7 bulbs would have to be adjusted to fit but the way these XF grooves are ... it would be quite the effort ... then the power connectors are much more slim and narrow than normal connectors that come with kits n stuff ...

so basically rather than messing anything up in my new car ... i''ll give it till the end of the year see if people start creating after market products for the XF and go that route ...
