I have a 1996 XJ6 Jag and am on a remote island in Alaska.  I have accidentally set off the alarm and can NOT get it to re-set. (IT HAS ALSO LOCKED THE IGNITION OUT)  I called the service place in Cali, and the tech gave me instructions to disc. the neg. battery cable and then unplug the alarm modulator, which I did.  When I re-set it like he said, as soon as I touched the door the alarm went off.  I have been 5 days with NO CAR...HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

Have you tried putting the key in the door and locking it then unlocking it? Also, can you put key in the ignition and turn it on to stop alarm? Steering wheel may have locked it out, so turn steering wheel all the way one way or the other while turning ignition on.

What started this issue was me trying to figure out why I was having trouble unlocking either door with my key. I decided as I am getting ready to drive across country that I needed to be able to LOCK the car and UNLOCK it for safety reasons.  So knowing it was acting up, I rolled the driver side window down, test locked w/key, but couldn''t unlock it.  Thinking I needed to reset the lock somehow, I reached through the window stuck the key in the ignition and ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.  Since then I can not get the alarm system to reset.  If I had just unlocked the door with door pull lock I''m sure I could have avoided this, but I''m sure as the doors were still locked...it assumed I was jacking my car...OOPS...Any other suggestions?  Every time I touch the car door the alram now goes off for about 7-12 minutes....but the key will not turn over the engine while the alram is going off....at all.....HELP HELP.....FEELING REALLY STUPID....in ALASKA

Wrap the hood in pillows and as soon as you''ve finished your cross country trip, take the car to a dealer. Sorry, I really sympathize. Having a car that you can''t drive for something this stupid must be maddening. Good luck getting this "sorted out" as they say in Coventry.

THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU...Which seems not enough to say....FactoryJaguarTech....I can NOT even begin to thank you for your help...this was the best thing I could have done for my car problem....coming here online and getting help.  I was lucky enough to have a professional who was ethical and willing to help me...With a little work, I pulled off the door panels and linning and was able to over the phone trouble shoot that the lock was seized on the unlock side...even though I could lock the car it wouldn''t unlock...after figuring this out...we disconnected the rod between the lock mechanism and the door key lock, and reconnected the battery...manually lifted the unlock rod...and voila''....I could shut the alarm off....and start the car.....CAN I SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!??????   I am sooooo happy...now I have a couple little things to do, (try to unseize the lock, replace door insulation and panels...and then I can DRIVE onto the ferry and leave here....when I get down to the Continental US I will probably have to replace the key lock portion, but that is a very acceptable scenario....plus....he gave me a great site to go to...to get a remote keyless entry for my car.   I am so glad I tried this, I hope other people will see that this site is a great resource.  With a little technical aptitude...and some clear guidance...some things can be corrected without being a nightmare....or being costly...other than the techs advice long distance from Florida to Alaska...I incurred little cost...my labor was worth every second....I have made a good contact on here....and I plan on sending him something kool from Alaska....(Salmon..or something...LOL)
