Hey folks-

Having some trouble from my check engine light.  My 96 xj6 has had the TSB done on the oil drain back assy from the valve cover to what looks like a pcv assy, but actually holds the anti-drainback valve and then connects to the oil dipstick tube, etc.  All of that was coming apart, all the rubber was cracked and the valve was clogged up with oil, so I went to Jaguar and got the entire TSB assy kit and installed that, reset the light and it stayed off.  The code from the computer was a EGR valve underflow and pcv, as well.  I guess this would be the EGR then, I hoped it would be the pcv assy that the TSB was designed for, and the light stayed off for a while, but then back on today.  Does anyone have any advice on where to get an EGR inexpensively, has anyone bumped into this same problem?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys, hope all is well with everyone...cheers!

Hi James,

Sorry that I can''t offer a solution on this but can I ask a question.   I have a ''95 XJ6 and my check engine light has been on for 5 years, but the car has always run beautifully.  I have only had to clean the throttle body.  I''m curious on how you can read the codes and how do you reset the light?  I was always under the impression that only a Jag dealership can read those codes.  Also, what does "TSB" refer to?

Thanks,

Carl

Most code readers will pick up the engine codes on cars newer than 1995.  They will not read SRS, transmission, or ABS codes for the most part.

TSB refers to Technical Service Bulletin.  The manufacturer comes out with these "corrections" once the cars are in the market place.  Not all TSB are "recalls."
