Installing Nav Console, ''03 S-Type 4.2

Coralguy -> Installing Nav Console, ''03 S-Type 4.2 (6/23/2008 7:35:40 AM)

Just joined the forum. I purchased the navigation console unit that replaces the two green LCD screens for HVAC and radio but haven''t yet purchased the navigation drive unit that goes in the trunk. Question: Can I still install the console and operate HVAC and radio without the DVD drive in the trunk?

Also, can I replace the chrome trunk plinth with one of the newer, wider ones or would that require a new trunk lid?

Thanks!

Glenn

welcome, im not very sure about he navigation question even though i ahve it on mine. I imagine if you have everything else it will just display a no cd or similar error when you push the nav button....for the chrome strip im 99% sure you would need a new trunk lid as its molded in, you must be thinking of the 05+ up styles...they had diff tail lights and even rear bumper too i believe

Thanks so much for the info on both items. I think I''ll give the nav install a try but will defer efforts re. the trunk plinth.

CoralGuy,
What unit are you using? I''m looking to do a similar setup, but with an 03 S Type 3.0.  Do you have any plans as far as how to setup the dash etc. and the wiring harness?

Hi,

I haven''t been online for a little while but read somewhere else that you''re installing a double din Kenwood. I purchased a like-new factory nav display module from eBay. Easily removed the instrument panel and discovered that the existing harness for the stereo and HVAC controls each have their own connector; the nav display module requires only one connector (and neither of my existing connectors are the same size as required by the nav).

So, now I am looking for an adapter or wiring diagram to make the connection... If I cannot find a solution, I am eagerly tracking your results and will do what you are doing. Yours will be awesome. Good luck!

Coralguy,

Sorry I''m so late to respond! As I''m sure everyone else has been- I was celebrating 4th of July.  I took a trip up to VA Beach and I''m just now getting back to the computer.  To alleviate the problem of the connectors, I''ve actually ordered a wiring harness from Nexia.com, a site based out of the UK.  From what I hear, this should be the harness to allow the switch.  It''s not in yet so I''m kinda waiting and eagerly anticipating myself, but I don''t expect any surprises.  After shipping it''s about $30 or $40.  I can give you the part number if you''d like to do it that way.

Good luck with your nav as well! Post pics of the finished product!

Let me know if you guys are still stuck on how to install the new factory sat/nav unit. I have the wiring schematics and some other info that will be helpful however I will warn it takes some one of at least moderate electrical skill to do.

SFK,

If you still have that info available I wouldn''t mind getting an email on it.  My harness just got in (to my home in FL) so I should be installing any day now. [:D]
