So this problem has been getting worse and worse. It used to happen every 10 or so starts, now it seams like its every 3. I''ll go to town the key to start and nothing. Everything powers up as normal, errors. The starter just doesn''t crank over. No clicks, or pops. Just nothing. I''ll turn the key back and go to start it again and it turns. Sometimes this can take about 3 tries though. Anyone know what this is?

My guess is the rotary switch is giving up the ghost. The car doesn''t realize it is in park, so it won''t let you start the car.

there is another possible cause, and from your description it sounds the more likely culprit there is a transponder chip in your ignition key, this chip is read by an antenna that is located in the steering column , this antenna can touch the moving parts and get damaged or even broken off , this has the effect of shortening the range of any signals that need to be read and it starts causing trouble when starting the car, exactly as you describe , it happens to my car now and again, and as you say, you have to keep trying, from what i have read, the replacement part is about £20 UK , and isnt that hard to fit, but i dont know any part numbers, you could try repairing it, as it only a simple cable ? a permanent fix ( but not recommended ) is to tape the transponder chip directly to the antenna , so it always reads, but this effectively by-passes the anti-theft system...... hope this helps BB btw, if you look at any of your keys you will see a small moulded round section, about the size of a match head, the chip is in a hole that is blanked off by this round section, the chip is about the size of a grain of rice ( maybe a little bigger ? ) , that why they need programing to you car if you get replacements etc
