My family has always owned Jags.  I remember my dads XJ-6 growing up and later his 88 XJS-12 convertible that he still owns! Yes it is green. And yes it is a family treasure.

It started for Me with my X-type and then Five years ago I bought my Jag. 03-S-type R Blk/Blk and yes even after spending well over PLUS=20k in repairs/service I still have a love affair with this car/or should I say my 2nd wife!

Ford was able to fix the electrical problems that had always tortured Jag owners to no end.I will give them that, My dad included. I remember my dads frustration having to hit the break pedal twice and turn on his hazard lights to start his XJ-6 in its later years. LOL. In my opinion this was Fords only shining moment to have fixed the electrical quirks.
However, Ford kicked Us/Jag lovers in the teeth this year with the XF coming out and getting rid of the X-type. The X-type was the means for me to afford my first Jag and now it is going/gone.
 I was more than thankful to learn that TATA Group was buying/purchased Jaguar and the Rover. {I apologize in advance for offending anyone about the XF}.  However, I was so excited about the XF coming out that I was going to buy the first XF-R when it came to my dealer.Blk/Blk of course.  When the first XF came into the dealer and to my suprise the motor was still the same as mine. I was dismayed. I was shocked to gaze upon the XF up close. Looks like a Benz/Lexus with a bit of Infinity thrown in. {Please insert apology to XF/owners here.} I said to my salesman,  If I wanted to buy a Lexus I would go to a Lexus dealer.  As we all know India was a British colony for along time, So Can we know say and think/HOPE/Pray that Jaguar is Back in English hands of some sort for all intensive purposes? Gosh I hope so.  If the New owner of Jag is smart, the TATA group brings back the entry level Jag for our younger Jag brothers and sisters. Because these buyers will be the ones to the buy the bigger Cats in the future. 
Lastly, can WE also hope that TATA opens the purse strings and goes back to REAL focused Racing and developement?  TATA if your listening??? THE CAT IS HUNGRY and WANTS TO RUN FREE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Feed the Cat it wants to chase the Horse again..................

I think you have it right about the X-type as a intro to the marque.  I have to disagree with your assesment of the XF.

You said "if I wanted to buy a Lexus, I would go get one" or something like that.  You are correct.  And, that''s exactly what a bunch of folks did.  These are customers Jaguar is chasing with the XF.  They want the MB, BMW, Lexus people to buy a Jaguar, so they gave them a car they would want.

I do agree that Jaguar does need an intro level vehicle to compete with the 3-series, etc.  But the X-type is still in production.  It''s the S-type that went away.

I hope that TATA brings out another super car.  Jaguar needs another XJ220 to bring the name back.

XF ? Well, I am no longer harsh on her but definitely not my fave Jag model but I believe XF to perform a good sale figures

Well as in any product, it is all about money.  The S-Type was failing sales(less than 500 new units in all of 2007) and Jaguar needed a model to compete with the likes of BMW, Lexus, Infinity, etc. that would appeal to the same market that the others are selling to.  The XF fits that bill.  In March, Jaguar sold 1,750 units and the XF accounted for 1,164 of them.  Somebody out there really likes them.  The X-Type is still produced, but not sold in the US anymore due to lack of sales.

Ken,  I am going go with your experience and your opinion of why Jaguar would make the XF look like a hybrid high end vehicle.  It makes sense and thanks for pointing it out. I guess in a few years it ill look normal 2 me etc. 
Caddy,  your right I was a bit harsh, I should before mentioned that although the XF in a appearance is really off the Jag norm in my eyes, I would certainly rather own an XF than a Benz, Lexus or Infinity. My S-type R has been embarassing, Vettes,  E-55''/63''s and 740/750 on route 95 north of  Boston for five years now. LMAO ahhahahah

I didn''t think you were harsh.  The XF was a big swing for Jag.  I think it was well calculated towards a market.  I too perfer the big sedans.  It''s a smart move, but not to my taste.  Of course, I perfer the big Jaguar sedans to even the sports cars, so what do I know?

i think TATA will be good for Jag and Land Rover but I really DO NOT like what they''re doing to the XJ series by ruining the traditional 4 headlight look ( I should talk with my XJ40..haha.) but the XJ''s look amazing right now why do they have to go and botch it up by making them look so damn close to the front of the XF? Theres a good possibility Id sleep with a man to get a brand new XJR with that upper and lower mesh grill and new flattened out look on the front.....OH MY LORD im getting sick just thinking about it!
