uk4545a -> Transmission Issue!! (6/29/2008 8:51:43 AM)

Well, my worst nightmare is happening. I just purchased a 97'' XK8 with 34,500 miles on it a month ago. Was running fine, now as of last night the transmission is winding out in all gears, and it will not shift gears if I try to use the manual shift changer. I also hear a clicking from the tranny when I shift it into drive and/or reverse. In addition, the temperature gause goes to red after driving it about 10 minutes, but will fluctuate at times back to normal?? Someone please tell me this is something simple!!

My wife is giving me the "I told you so" stating Jaguar''s at times less than stellar reliability reputation.......[>:]

The temperature issue could be a sticking thermostat.  It is closed on startup, but then fails to open when reaching operating temps.  Sometimes it does not stick, and the temperature is fine.  Easy Fix.  New Thermostat.  PS> While you are fixing things, get an aluminum t-stat [replacing the plastic version] housing like this: http://www.britishparts.com/jaguar-data-sheets/jaguar-thermostat-housing-aluminum.pdf

As for the trans acting up, I don''t know.

Thanks for the info Gordo. Possibly the transmission is going into "limp" mode when the thermostat rises. Makes sense since it drives fine before the temp goes up....
