Now that is something I just do not get: Wealth envy. Somebody has had a more fortunate life than me? Worked harder, made greater sacrifices, had better connections, better luck? Fine. Good for them. They buy nice stuff and keep the people who sell and service such stuff in business and their families fed. It all goes around.

Remember the first thing you learned in school? ''Do not bring any candy to class unless you bring enough for everybody.'' That is a child''s first lesson in socialism: Everybody should have the same amount of stuff, otherwise, it is ''not fair''. From there, it moves on to every kid in the class getting a prize just for participating (cannot bruise the fragile self-esteem of losers by acknowledging winners, you know). In college, they get lectured to by people who live by tenure instead of accountability. Finally, they get to the real world, were they might lose a job or two because the private sector doesn''t run on the same principles as taught to them by ized government employees, and they participate in a tax system that is based on envy.

But hey, I could be wrong.

A friend of mine had to have a front fender on his Ferrari 308GTS repainted because some <censpored> keyed it. I parked my XJ6 in front of my parents house just long enough to pick something up, and someone drove by and threw a slushie at it.

And we see stories in the news all the time about people suing for this, or complaining that the ''government'' (taxpayers) don''t provide them with that. Many people seem to have developed an entitlement complex that is... what is a good word here... Chronic? Pathological? Whatever, it is not getting any better. They do not have a nice car, and it is my fault, not theirs? I swear, it is like I took something from them.

And the really funny thing is when someone expresses their reverse snobbery, I will ask them ''How much did you give for your car? Bought it new, right?''

''Yeah, go it for just under 30.''

''I paid less than a third of that for my Jaguar. I bought it when it was ten years old.''

You should the facials expressions I get.

93 - You say that money doesn''''t measure success? Well, I''''m sorry to have to disagree, but, to some degree, of course it does, jeeesh.
Everyday people like you and me look at todays famous actors, sports stars, celebrities etc etc with their fame, amazing wealth, huge properties, cars, yachts etc and think they''''re successful, of course we do!
Its only natural and a fact of life.
You dont look at a tramp / hobo / streetwalker etc etc and say to yourself....wow, I wish I had their success in life, do you? I know I don''''t!
Whether these " successful " people are happy or successful in their family life or any other aspect of their day to day lives, we may never know, but they are still considered as being successful as a general rule.

I know some people look at me and think I''''m successful ( lol, if only they knew ) because I have a new Audi A6. This of course was broken into a few weeks ago any my sat nav stolen and window smashed. My Mondeo ST - stolen on sat
I live in a nice house in a nice area and some people say.......wow, you''''re driving a nice car and have a nice house, you must be doing ok, as in....you''''re successful. Maybe not in life as a whole, but, in regard to posessions, so yes, I''''m afraid to some extent, money does measure success.

Jim

The way I look at it, people just use money to try to get a feeling of enjoyment.  However, I know plenty of people who make very low incomes, who are some of the happiest people I know, and who have accomplished many great things.  I also think of the many buddhists I know who have very little, but they do not want material things.
The most successful person I know was my high school bio teacher/tennis coach.  He went to Duke, married the perfect woman for him, works with his wife at school, spends time with friends, and is always doing the different sports he loves.  Next year him and his wife are moving to Chili to teach underprivlidged children there.
I consider him so successful because he does all the things he loves, but money isn''t important to him he teaches for the love of it.
That to me is when you are successful, when you are able to do what you love without worrying about insignifigant things in the way.  You can be rich and have this too I suppose, but most wealthy people I know have work in the way of the doing what they love.

I suppose I''ll jump in and toss in my own two cents since it seems a few people are commenting on those of us who are part of the "younger generation."  While I can agree, I think it''s ridiculous for people to bash you or get angry because you have money, I don''t think that''s something that can be avoided.  Jealousy is a crazy feeling- but at the end of the day it resides in all of us.

I don''t consider myself to be rich in any way shape or form- but people still see a 20 year old "kid" driving a Jaguar, and for some reason I "must be a drug dealer" because I''m black.  At the end of the day I think its important for us to not complain about the hands we''ve been dealt because WE can''t change the way OTHERS view us.  Rather than try to convince myself of how much I hate people who are less fortunate than me for hating me, I try to continue to have a positive outlook on life, and try to remember that at the end of the day everything happens for a reason.

Perfect example- back in the days, I took my old Lexus coupe in to be serviced, and mysteriously wires were missing and/or hanging out in the open that weren''t there before.  While I along with he rest of the family was pissed about it- it ended up being part of the reason I drive the jag now.

Same thing used to happen to me when I moved to Birmingham and drove a Porsche. Got pulled over every 2-3 weeks until I sold the car. Heard every kind of excuse you could think of for why I was pulled over, and all they would do is run my license and tags to make sure I owned the car, and flash the flashlight around if it was at night. Now granted, I looked younger than my (at the time) 30 years, but if the idiot Hoover cops had just known anything about cars, they would have realized I was driving a 13-year-old 944 that was worth only $3,000.

And I''m not even black!

I''''ve never had to deal with that sort of harassment but then I don''''t live in an area where seeing nice cars around town is particularly unusual.

If anything, the Cops are more likely to pull you over if you AREN''T driving a nice car.

I didn''t THINK I''d have to worry about that sort of harassment either- seeing as how I live in the suburbs of FL.  But I get on the road a lot- so every time I leave town I get the old run around.  They did the same thing to my buddy- he has an 06 BMW 3 Series with a Rieger Body Kit and some upgraded BMW wheels.  He''s turning 24 this October, and they''ve gone so far as to put him in the back of the squad car to get him to "confess" to stealing the car he drives.  Only one problem- IT''S REGISTERED IN HIS NAME! LOL

...We shouldn''t talk about money:)...only about girls and cars:) Because I don''t have money nobody is envying me.
I came in the U.S. 4 years ago with 50$ in my pocket, and 1000$ in debt, and a working contract. Now I''m driving my own semi. I''ll be 26 in October this year.
I just can''t stand people that are complaining about their situation and they are waiting for somebody to give them everything for free. They don''t take advantage of what this country can offer them.
Enjoy what you have, money are made to be spent. When you die you take s..t with you so why would you b...h about other people succes?A lot of people are just posing anyway,a lot of them can''t afford the car they are driving.

I''''m with you 93

My wife''''s cousin has a family that won the lottery and are multi-millionaires now.  Everyone would think of how great it would be to be rich but truly those people whom are rich never get to enjoy the finer things in life.  The family that became a "millionaire family" are no longer a family at all.  The parents are divorced and the family is no more.  To me that is not successful or rich that is bad fortune.  IMO someone that is successful is someone that has no worries and lives life to the fullest.

People including myself do get caught up in trying to impress other people, when in all actuality it truly isn''''t worth it!  Although I''''m not really trying to impress others just trying to make the best decision I can.  Buying the jag and having the appearance that I have money is just a bonus that was came with it.  I didn''''t want to spend the same amount of money on a grand prix when I could have an awd jag!  Now I just happened to be hooked into the brand and love everything about the jags.

Enough rambling from me now, but money isn''''t the key to success.  It surely isn''''t the key to happiness, if it were so many rich celebrities wouldn''''t do so many things to get them away from their lives.  Most if not all celebrities have some sort of crutch whether it  be drugs or alcohol or some other form of thing to allow the to escape.  Which on the other hand you''''d think they would be happy go lucky people considering their financial status.

Ignorant or Arrogant, both bad.

I''ve seen both types, People who randomly start naming things they own, they not only look arrogant, but stupid.

Then theres the type of people who judge your bank account by what they see.
Good example, saw a couple with fancy clothes, jewelery, holding Armani shopping bags, etc ... you would think their rich, but then you find out they rent a 1 bedroom and lease a toyota. Then you see a couple dressed like they came out of a walmart, but they hop in their bentley and drive to their park avenue penthouse.
Point is, don''t judge, and dont let shit get to you.

As for me, im filthy rich.
