Silly X/S type question

Is it just me or do the X types and S Types use the same body, just have a few different body panels?  Every time I look at an S-type, I would swear that it was an X-type.  I know the front end is arranged a bit different and the taillights/trunk lid are slightly different.    maybe I need to look at them a bit closer side by side.  Could it be that they use the same side panels, but the center section is a few inches wider to separate the two cars a bit more and it just isn''t so obvious.

If they are the same body, then my mind ponders why it wouldn''t be possible to slide the 4.0L from the S-type into the X-type.  I''m sure it isn''t quite that simple, but this would lead to some ideas on my part.  More Zooom Zooom.

As I understand..the X and S do not have the same platforms..But the S is definatley of a different caliber than the X..I once remember hearing or reading that the X is on a Ford Taurus type chassis..I''m Not sure of this though.

Dennis, I''m just curious.  Oh the fun that could be had if the two share some common things.  Kinda like I think it would be great to take the 4.0L motor from out of the S-type and drop it into hte X-type after converting it over to 2wd.  I can only imagine the fun that that would be.  might have to do some more research into this and see what sort of options we have with our X-types.

The X-Type uses the Ford Mondeo chassis, which in the US we knew for a brief time as the Ford Contour (horrible looking car). The S-Type uses the DEW platform, which is used on the Lincoln LS (nice car) and obviously XF.

Now, the LS I know uses a larger engine than the 3.0L, so, would that mean that the motor from out of an LS would fit into the X-type?  Kinda curious.  I know it would involve a conversion over to 2wd as I can''t recall an AWD LS.  OH well, guess it will be a lot of researching and seeing what I can find.

From my understanding the S-Type used the original Jaguar S-Type/MkII chasis from the sixties, and the X-Type used the Mondeo chasis from Ford.
I may be wrong but that is what I have been told and that is why you get a lot more road/tire noise in the X-Type than you get in the S-Type, and the S-type is a lot more stable on cornering.

[8|]  Sigh... Oh for the days when a Jaguar was built on a Jaguar Chassis.... or for that matter in Britain by the British from scratch by hand... I realy don''t see anything Jaguar about Jaguar anymore.
