While everyone''''s talking about Transmission problems and such, any idea on why my ''''93 XJ6''''s tranny is acting funny. On every few start ups (2-3) the gear lights on the shifter will be really dim and while this is happening, the transmission will not shift out of 1st gear, and when put into reverse or drive, there will be a pretty hard jump. But a few miles of driving and stopping (2-20 miles) the lights will go back to normal and the car will work properly. I''''ve taken it to NAPA and they''''ve tried to play with it and took it to his Jag specialist (Jag dealer won''''t look at models older than ''''96), they said they fixed the problem (changed the alt, replaced some connectors) but problem wasn''''t solved, I''''ve called him and told him the problem is still here but refuse to take it back until I have an idea of what''''s wrong, I''''m not mad at him because this is a ghostly problem. Any takers???

By the way, recently my XJ6 wouldn''t start so the other mechanic I took it to fixed it by replacing the O2 sensors, transmission problems showed up right after this, wondering if the O2 sensors could have knocked the transmission out of whack.

Anything can affect anything on a Jag. Lilkey you didn''t even need to o2 sensors. I''ve found that with Jag''s as soon as you fix one thing another invariably goes wrong. Seriously the best place for these kind of problems is the Dealer who with certified trained technicians actually find the correct problem and fix it although of course not inexpensively, you will find the dealer will fix it right. I learned my lesson the hard way, and no longer take my cat to any backyard shops.  Our dealer takes any Jaguar, all models, all years, so I''d look at another dealer. A lot of the so called Jaguar specialty shops only real specialty is screwing up your Jag worse than it started out.  Isn''t that special...
