My car is a 1997 XJ6 3,2 Sport. I have a worrying sound at about 1500 -3000 rpm. It comes from the front of engine and i am pretty sure it has something to do with the timing chain or gliding plates. My reason to thought so is that i loosened the upper tensioner and reinstalled it without knowing about the allen key i should have been winding back. The tensioner broke internally but the vibrating sound was gone. I then bought a new upper hydraulic tensioner and the vibrating sound was back. Seems that there is too little pressure on the tensioner blade. Can some of the glide coating have fallen off ? I dont see forward to dismantle the timming Have anyone expired something like this with a 6 sylinder engine ? And do anyone have a discription of how to take the cover off in the easiest way ? The sound appeared suddenly. (About 20 miles after oil and filter change with a internal washout of the engine.) Also have added STP oil treatment.
