this is not mines
i got some 20s for my jag. but the last car i had was a 1993 chevrolet caprice on some 24s and i cant resist the urge to ride on some bigger wheels. so im puttin my 20s up for sale and i want to put some 22s on my jag like this...
but what you guys think is required to fit 22s on my x-type?

Seriously bro..what you have now is perfect as long as they don''t rub,,any more that that they look oversized for the car''s proportions.

playboii, doing some looking on http://www.tirerack.com, the smallest tire that you can get for 22" rims is 245/30R22. Assuming you went with that, you are looking at a 3" taller tire than what your car had on it stock (new tire would have an outside diameter of 27.8" vice the stock 25.0"). Because of the additional width and height, I think you are going to have some major rubbing issues unless you do either a lift to the car or you do some body work to clear things.
We have discussed lifts in the past and I think you know what all is involved with that. As for body work, you will have 2 points that you will be focusing on. The easier of the two to fix and not majorly affect the looks is the back of the front wheel wells (along the firewall). Fixing this area should be pretty easy and fairly cheap. The big thing is getting something in there to tie the fender liner back, out of the way. I did a mod like this on my truck (97 Ford Expedition) and it cost me $10 to do and about 90 minutes of my time. Where the bigger issue is going to come is on the tops of all 4 wheels wells. Running this larger diameter tire with the additional width, you are going to be hitting the tire against the top of the wheel well. Unfortunately, the fix for this is extensive body work and reshaping of the wheel wells. I can''t give you exact pricing, but seeing a price tag in the range of $2000 would not be unexpected.
You can try running a 1" taller coil to give you the needed clearance, but also understand that this is going to affect the suspension and lead to other issues. So, while it is a quick fix, may lead to more costly fixes later.
Also, keep in mind that running this minimum size 22" tire is going to toss your speedo off by 11.8%. That is fairly significant and you are going to see a loss in acceleration and mileage. So, something to keep in mind. Not saying you shouldn''t, but understand the pros and cons of the situation too. How do I know this, when you jump from 30" tires to 37''s, you see what it does. But, I have accepted the fact that running 37" tires is the look that I want on my truck. I haven''t seen another Expedition running 37''s with only a 4" lift. I know people have tried but quickly gave up as they were having serious rubbing issues. I have done lots of work to make the tires clear for my case. So, I know a thing or two about making tires fit in the wheel wells with very limited room.

what you have now is a look that says I am a retard.....
the look is awful.... and the performance will be awful, and the effect on wheel bearing ( i have been through 7 with stock rims) will be awful.
I think from an engineer''s eyes, putting huge wheels on a car demonstrates the low level of basic education that North American has fallen to.
