The air conditioning in my 1988 Vand Den Plas doesn''t get very cold. When the car is in motion it''s cold enough to suffice, but when the car isn''t moving and the engine is idling the air conditioning isn''t cold enough. What could be the problem?

You own a Jaguar... Seriously though, the XJ''s have a notoriously bad a/c system guarenteed to quit whenever it''s hot. It does sound however like your refridgerant might be a little low. You can get a refill kit at most auto parts stores and some even rent the fill kit so you can do it yourself. Otherwise a trip to the shop which will be far more expensive. I have an auto wrecker buddy, who fills ours whenever they get low with the recovered Freon from scrap cars. The stuff is very hard to get anymore and updating an older A/C rarely works out well.
