Well that happened after Ford bought the company I think. Now that TATA is the new owner I don''t think they will share the parts with other cars.( like S-Type and Lincoln LS) .
The marque should go on. I''m hoping there will be better days for "The Beast"

i keep myself pretty updated with Car & Driver each month and the regular business news in the NYTimes and apprently atleast for a while longer TATA will be supplied with many of the same Ford parts as it was before being sold. I totally understand u though xj40ish...thats why as gorgeous as many new Jags are they''re Fords...our XJ40s were the last TRUE Jags in my opinion! Even though the X-type is awesome and has the traditional 4headlight look and I consider buying one every once n a while its still a model CREATED under Ford and BASED on another ford...i cant live with that. lol.

I know what you mean. It''s hard to tell the difference between a Ford, Lincoln, and Jaguar anymore. Our XJ40''s were the last of the mark as far as I can tell. I mean seriously if you put a leaper on a contour, it''s still a contour. Judgnig by the phtots on another forum, they''re no longer built in Brown''s Lane, and I''m not even sure where they''re built these days, if you can call dropping a Jaguar trimmed and badged body on a contour  "building" .

As for the "where" on Jaguar production, the X-Type is built in Halewood, while the XF, XJ & XK are built in Castle Bromwich. As you can see on Google Earth, both locations are still in England:

In fact, Castle Bromwich is less than half-hour drive from Brown''s Lane.

On the matter of which Jaguar was the "last true" Jaguar, remember that the X300 was basically a facelifted XJ40, and the X308 was an X300 with a new dash and a V8 engine. Also, the X300 was offered with the V12. I consider my own X300 to be a "true" Jaguar, even if it is little more than a sorted & reliable XJ40.

Okay, just kidding! DON''T SHOOT!

Hey, look at the bright side: You''re not driving a "Saab-illac". ("Cadi-Saab?")

Kinda a shame that the Jaguar is being built at such a historic place where the only true british classic the Supermarine Spitfire Fighter was conceived. As for a face lift on the XJ40 which was a face lift on the old XJ6 etc nothing really unique has been presented by Jaguar lately, only ''''kit cars'''' on ford chassis.

The dealer wants to sell me a nice low milage 2000 XJ8 but I gotta admit even with their oh so generous $2000.00 trade in offer which won''t even cover the present repair bill,  Jaguar is probably the last car I''''d consider given my XJ40''''s introduction into the whole Jaguar thing.

So you would get a 2000 XJ8 and have to replace the chain tensionsers (if they haven''t been done already)? Just get an X300 already.

And the XJ40 was a "clean sheet of paper" car. But it still had Lucas connectors...  And since my X300 has Lucas bits, I can make the case that it is indeed a "proper Jaguar".
