2004 XJ8 Easy Exit Front Seat Feature Stopped Working - 7/5/2008 5:07:16 PM    rgzx11   Posts: 4 Joined: 8/25/2007 Status: offline The easy exit front seat feature appears to have stopped working. I took the car to a dealer for service and the tech was 6'' 5" and had to put the seat all the way back to drive it. He left the seat in this position and I adjusted the seat to fit me. Prior to taking the car in - the seat would always drop down and back (and steering wheel would raise up) whenever I turned off the key and opened the door. Then when I got in the car and started it, the seat (and the steering wheel) would automatically raise up and return the their original locations. I verified the 3-way switch on the left hand of the steering column was in the middle position to enable the easy exit feature to operate. I told the dealer about this and they said there was a TSB (new software programming) for the seat and performed it. The result is still the same, the seat does not recline and drop down automatically like it used to. The steering wheel does raise up and return when I exit and enter the car. Any ideas on this? There is some limit if the seat is lower it won''''t move. For my settings only the wheel moves when I get the key out, for my wife''''s both the wheel and the seat move. RE: 2004 XJ8 Easy Exit Front Seat Feature Stopped Working - 7/29/2008 1:06:57 AM    Brake buster   Posts: 69 Joined: 3/4/2008 Status: offline its been turned off....... there should be a small switch or dial around the steering column with '' off '' and '' auto '' written on it, this will turn off the features you are now missing , turn it back to auto , and the steering wheel will move up out of the way , and the seat will roll back a little to provide easier exit from the car... its sort of linked up with the seat memory , but has nothing to do with the memory functions other than to return you back to the driving position once the ignition key has been inserted into the ignition...
