I''ve noticed that 90% of the posts in the XK forum have been related to fixing things that are broken or trying to figure out what exactly is broken.
Most other forums about other cars are taken up with doing modifications, or talking about enjoying the car at the track, at a show or meet, or on a long trip?
Where did we go wrong?!

I think a lot of us don''t post about all the positives we''ve experienced with our cars. Posting here for help is not a bad thing.
I love my XKR 100. It is a beautiful machine, and I''ve not had any problems with it. I''ve had to put new brakes on, but that is just normal maintenance.
I can''t tell you how many people have walked up to me and drooled over my car.
Also, I had a new Mustang try and outrun me to a turn at an intersection once. I am not normally affected by that kind of adolescent behavior, but in that particular instance it just got under my skin. I even impressed myself that day.
I don''t know about anybody else, but when I floor my accelerator my car puts me deep in my seat.

In the XK range, there isn''t alot of aftermarket stuff we can do to them, with the exception of some minor performance upgrades in the ''r'' departement. We do brakes, tires, maybe suspension stuff, but alot of us keep them stock, and therefore, not alot to talk about in regards to improvements. I have done a bunch of stuff to it audio-wise, but there''s a special section for that kind of thing - Audio/Visual and then I''ve done some LEDs on the brake and turn signals...but again, there''s a special section for that called the Exterior section. I am a rule follower, and perhaps my fellow xk* drivers are as well?
I like to keep things relative here... compaired to the X-type, XJ and S-type sections, there''s less members here obviously, but I also think there are statistically less ''problem threads'' that are in this area too.

Part of the problem is finding anyone that knows how to fix these cars. They defy everyone but those with the most experience, so we turn to the internet.

I notice that most of the contributors to this forum own 2nd hand cars!
From personal experience it seems that its all down to doing your homework on the type of car that you want. I looked at a number of cars before I chose my XKR. It was not the newest model or the lowest milage, but the owner had loved the car and spent an extra 20 or 30K on extras when he bought the car new and had only used the car at the weekend.
I have owned the car for nearly 2 years now without any problem (touch wood) and I love every moment spent in her.
She has been serviced throughout her life at the right time by a Jaguar specialist and any minor problem has been sorted right away.
To own a car of this quality is a pleasure and privilege and I count myself lucky to be fortunate enough to own her.
My advice would be to do your research and not buy on impulse. People don`t shout out enough about the quality of these cars and only want help when things go wrong!
Lets have more people telling us what a wonderful car the XK8 or R is !!!

I read and post on this and other forums because I feel I fit in with others with simuliar perspectives on XK* ownership. Because of early extensive and expensive issues these cars are dramatically undervalued in the used car marketplace. As the 4th owner, I bought my car as a hobby car very cheaply because of known problems and enjoy both discussing the problems with other owners, chasing parts and solution and the thrill of owning and driving it. The XK* forums have grown into a ''fraternity'' of similarly situated owners.
That is my view of the personality of the XK* forums and I hope it doesn''t change.

I am members of a 300zx forum where less than 5% of member own a completely stock car. Everyone mods everything. Most of the cars are worth less than $20k; and most of the members are under 30 years old. We''re not ricers, but we do mod. Lots of cars are running in excess of 450-500 rwhp.
Most of the XK8 on this forum cost way more than $20k; and most of the members of over __ years old. (Well you get the picture)
My point is we don''t want ricers, hot rods, noisy, hard riding, bling filled amusement park rides. We like our cars to be the quick, quiet, comfortable grand tourers they were meant to be. Like some of the earlier posters note many of us make the occasional improvement to audio, brake pads, or maybe an intake or exhaust; but I dont think anyone here is looking for Wings West body kits, or neon lights in the wheel wells.
As for sharing posts about attending car shows and sharing experiences with group meets.... Well we are too busy cleaning up the Pentosin hydraulic fluid out of our consoles and carpets to get into anyting like that.
