The DSC Disabled light came one while driving and I could not enable it. I had to pull off the highway, shut off the car and turn it back on. When the car restarted, it was enabled. What caused this to shut off? Why couldn''t I enable it while driving?

If you did not manually disable the DSC when driving and the lights (as well as the message) came on, then its almost definitely a problem with the system. I had a similar problem with my ''05 XJ8 about 2 months ago. Both ABS and DSC lights (and their corresponding messages) came on suddenly while I was driving. After shutting down the car and letting the engine rest for about 15 minutes, I turned it on again and the lights went out. I brought it to the dealership but they could find the fault. They then decided to clean the ABS contact points at each wheel hoping that the problem would go away. However, it kept happening intermitently over the next few weeks until about 3 weeks ago when the lights failed to go off each time I started the car. I brought it in to the dealership again and was later told that a speed sensor switch had failed. Got it changed under warranty and so far the ABS and DSC lights have not come on. I previously had a XK8 convertible which had similar problems. But unlike my XJ8 the XK8 was diagnosed with ABS module failure and I had to change the complete module outside warranty. The repairs cost me almost US$2,000. I suggest the next time the ABS or DSC lights come on, bring the car to the dealership for a full diagnostic. Don''t shut the engine down as this might kill lights and message and make finding the fault difficult. Moreover, you would at least have prove that the lights came on without prompting! Good luck.

That''s going to be hard to keep the engine running and stop everything to get to a Jag dealer. Let''s see how frequent this light comes on first.

I have the same issue: "DSC Not Available" message comes up, clears after restart. I could drive a week with the light off, then it would come on every time I drive. I did a little research on this error. The DSC module, which is combined with the ABS, is connected to a lot of systems and sensors in the car. If it detects failure or even signal inconsistencies between the sensors it will cause this problem. I have a few TSBs how to diagnose this and it could be quite labor intensive. I would also recommend going to the dealer and not a local shop as the computer diagnostic equipment seems to be fairly specific to the car. Even if the light is not on the computer will store the failure codes, however almost all diagnostic routines call for clearing the codes, swapping sensors and checking if the codes come again, which would be rather tricky if the failure is not consistent. I''m saving pennies from my morning coffee and trying to improve my mental stamina before going to the dealer with this problem as it could be a long a costly endeavor. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
