Im trying to purchse brkes for my 2000 xjr nd all these shops online give me 2 options or "different types" of pads. Do all 2000 xjr 4.0L supercharged Jags have the same interchangeble brake pad, both front and rear?

All brake pads that are spec''d for your XJR will fit. The difference you are seeing has to do with the composition of the pad material. I have used semi-metallics for the last 80k and have no issues and pretty good brake response with very minimal fade. They are relatively inexpensive, as the most expensive is not always the best. I change the fronts and watch the rears since they do not wear as fast.

What were the options you were given?

Also, more importantly is to make sure your calipers can slide laterally with no restriction. This will insure that the inboard and outboard pads will wear correctly and will not cause excessive heat from rubbing on one side. Heat is a rotor killer and if allowed to occur will cause hard spots on your rotor which will show up as a pulsating brake when coming to a stop

Basically the differece is quoted below. Keep in mind, both set of pads are listed under "XJR"
"Front Supercharged - Exc. ''R'' Performance Package
w/ ''R'' Performace Package "

Are all XJR''s with "R" performance package?

The "R" package can be on either the XJ8 or the XJR.  Most do not have it.

I will always be pro-ceramic padding. My mechanic just popped this on mine

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=023&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=360012589570&rd=1

the works. super inexpensive, breaks are SWEET now, very tight with such a smooth feel. My opinion.. semi-metallics are no dice. Nasty break dust and squeals.

Yup on the expensive for the "R" or "R1" packages.

Pads, front only, for my 03 XJR/R1 (Brembo) package is $500 from the dealer, and I''ll be looking at rotors next time too. 64K miles.

They can be found cheaper, but I have no links at the moment with the new computer. I lost all my research.

Oh, and nobody makes ceramic replacements for the R package machines. At least as far as my research has taken me.

http://www.europartsdirect.com shows them at an attractive price. No affiliation, and not a customer.

Based on research only, this advice is worth every cent you paid for it.
