Ok, super noob here.  How many miles / months do you go between oil changes?

IMO, I wouldn''t go past 6000 miles...with any kind of oil..

Good deal.  The people we got it from did it every 5k using wix filters and mobile 1 synthetic.

look into royle purple, little more money but ive heard good things, even some reports of engines that consume(burn) a little oil have a reduced amount of oil consumption.
the oil is tested a the top and bottom of every barrel to check for low quality or moisture, most companies only test from the bottom, if at all.
i use mobil 1 because i havent found royle purple around here for a deacent price..
