to anyone thinking about buying a jaguar, i would advice you to not buy one. i have only had this car for less than a year and already spent over $2500 getting things fixed here and there, and to top it off my gearbox just broke, and looking online you see a lot of complaints about this and many other things and instead of jaguar to have a recall on this sort of things jaguar would not. Worst car ever made no wonder that indian company bought ''''em cause no one else will

........ I don''t understand why you post this here..........  most of us are owners and/or lovers of Jag''s.  We all know that nothing is perfect; we also know that you get what you pay for. you provide no facts or data; just a rant.  We don''t know what you bought, miles/condition,if you had a PPI, etc.

I''ve found this forum to be a great resource for technical support; and, because most are owners (unlike other forums) you can get feedback and thoughts from people who have ''been there and done that''.

I hope you get your problems sorted out and start to enjoy your Jag; or just sell it and move on.  Life is too short.

good luck

I was a bit worried before i bought my 01 S type but after reading the average problems I opted to buy the best aftermarket warranty possible.  So IF i have any problems i should be covered.

I honestly couldn''t be any happier with my Jaguar.  People always say what a nice looking car it is and i haven''t done anything to it aside from window tint and some darkening of the sidemarkers.    I love my Jaguar.  Next Jag purchace will be a used S type R if i can find a good enough deal on one.

Well i am not looking for an amen or a applaud here, but all i can say that it is your fault. I had a toyota were the paint was coming off and i knew the paint was coming off and the i had a Lexus that i was reparing on a regular basis. I am not going to a toyota/lexus forum saying that they are crappy cars. I don''t care what car it is pray about it do your homework and then make the decision not the other way around.

I love my ''03 S-Type 4.2...it is my second S-Type. Big improvement over the ''00 S-Type 4.0 that I had.

Any car can have problems don''t blame Jaguar. I was a die-hard Beemer owner and had 5 3-series BMWs (throught 1987 - 2000) before changing over to something more exotic and unique. My last BMW was an M3 and that was a spitfire. But 3 of the 5 BMWs had problems (and all were purchased BRAND NEW).

Two of the Beemers had faulty rear windshield heaters. Both times, I was driving in the snow with the rear heater on and suddenly heard a loud CLAP: my rear windshield shattered and fell into my rear seat while snow poured into the window!

After driving my third Beemer off the dealer''s lot and enjoying a leisurely ride home, sunset approached. So, I turned on the parking lights. Upon doing so, I heard a loud grinding noise. When I shut the lights off, the noise stopped. So, I drove home without any lights (including headlights) for the remainder of my 50 mile trip home. When I pulled into the garage, a friend stopped by to check out my new car. The car was not running and the keys were in my pocket. I turned on the parking lights so he could see the dash lights and guess what? The car started itself without any keys in the ignition!!! I shut the lights off and the car remained running. The BMW Master Mechanic said that in his 20+ years servicing BMWs, he had never see anything like it.

The moral of the story: Even sacred cows of the auto industry, such as BMW, have problems. And, these were all brand new cars! The newbie bought a used, abused Jag...what did he expect?

As I''ve said before........I''d rather be standing by my Jag. waiting for a tow truck than drive any other car!!

Haven''t had a single problem with my 2001 S-Type. Had it for 8 months now. Personally, BMW, Jaguar, Porsche, and Mercedes all are expensive to fix. You should have the extra money to spend on it when it breaks. High class cars always take more and more money to repair and maintain not to mention 91+ octane. That being said, having these cars doesn''t mean they won''t break down. I second KAZSAM. Dejinero, you should have read the forums before buying. I have been reading the jaguarforums for 1 year 8 months prior to buying my 2001 S-type. I still went ahead and bought that year model. Not to mention I have 2,000 dollars stored for its maintenece.
