Ok I have a 2000 S-Type V8, non sport, stock.  My check engine light is on steady, and sometimes flashing.  Car hesitates at idle and pretty much all rpm''s and my mpg has dropped.

Is there a way to test the ign. coils without buying a new one and testing them all.  What codes would it pop up if there was a coil problem.  I have been searching this forum for two days with no avail.  And to boot I can''t ever post more than a couple lines or I get this server error message.

If you can, take it to Autozone and they can scan it and steer you in the right direction perhaps.

if the misfire is bad enough it will set a code.. for the failed cylinder.. especially if its blinking.. then replace that coil..

Just got out of work, and on my way, I''ll keep you all posted.  God I hate being a tech, and fixing everyone else''s stuff, and then coming home to fix my own.

Thanks to everyone...code P0304 which led me to cyl #4, replace the coil and running great.  Once I get the money I''ll replace all the rest of the factory ones (black labels w/numbers).  How long will it take for the check engine light to go off, and I still smell a little funky sulphur type smell when I step on it.  Any ideas

Anybody know how long, or if there is something I have to do to get the check engine light off.

You may have to use the scan tool to reset/clear the codes.

If the problem is corrected, CEL will reset within 10 "starts".
