Warning indications - 4/18/2007 3:16:35 PM

At the end of a recent road trip (150 miles, averaging about 65 - 75 mph) the temp gauge shot up to H, the panel showed "reduced performance" and the engine light illuminated.  Oh C%^&, but wait, I remembered a mechanic in the UK telling me that sometimes the XJ's will do crazy things for no reason.  So I pull over and follow the instructions he gave me which is to turn off the car, remove the key and wait 10-20 secs, restart and yes all the indications had returned to normal except for the engine light which will need to be cycled (switch off and on) a minimum of three times to reset.

Thanks for the info. I have tried to no avail. I forgot to mention I have just had then car converted to LPG (I avg 20000miles per year). The guy who converted it says it might be a confict between the Brain on the car and the gas module. He's having a look tomorrow with a view of fitting a emulator if it is. If not I'll let you know the outcome.

Hello,
I'm thinking of having the conversion myself. Could you help with the following?
What do you think of LPG?
Whats the MPG on gas?
How long does it take to warm up system?
Worthwhile on 10000 per year, planning to keep for 3 years?
Is it saving you half of the cost of petrol?
Thank you
Ade

Hi ade, I see that you only do 10k miles a year! Its not very high mileage and I dont think even over 3 years with that sort of mileage you would get payback for what the system would cost to install?
This is not based on fact I hasten to add just my opinion based on the cost of feul vs gas x the miles per annum against the cost of retrofitting the system.
I do remember seeing somewhere though that you may be able to qualify for a grant from the government to convert it under one of the many environmental acts that have been passed.

Jim
